  • Patent number: 6386417
Abstract: A process and apparatus for fracturing, into a bearing cap and a connecting rod, an integral preform which defines a cylindrical aperture and two spaced-apart bolt seat shoulders. A guide member defines a first guideway along which moves a first slide member, the latter in turn defining a second guideway parallel to the first, along which a second slide member moves. A split mandrel has an upper part fixed with respect to the first slide member and a lower part fixed with respect to the guide member. The split mandrel halves define an internal tapered passageway for receiving a wedge capable of forcing the mandrel halves apart. Projections on the second slide member contact the bolt seat shoulders when the cylindrical aperture of the preform receives the split mandrel, and means are provided for urging the second slide member toward the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 6371101
Abstract: A slicing device using yarn includes at least two yard-guide cylinders on which the yarn is wound and by which the yarn can be moved with a reciprocating or continuous motion pressed against a piece to be sliced fixed on a supporting table. The yarn is wound on the yarn-guide so as to form at least two layers of yarn intersecting with one or several non-null intersecting angles (&bgr;) and so as to pass in a straight line from one cylinder to the other. The angle of inclination between the moving direction of the piece to be sliced and a line perpendicular to the plane of the yarn cylinder axes is adjustable so as to obtain strictly parallel slices. The intersection of the yarn layers improves the quality of slices obtained by facilitating the subsequent mechanical treatment operations of surfaces with crossed faults. Moreover, the angle of the yarn layers reduces the shearing and torsional stresses on the support of the piece to be sliced when the slices are being cut.

  • Patent number: 6311597
Abstract: A punch and die set is provided for use in a stamping press having a punch assembly and a die assembly reciprocated by a driving mechanism. The punch and die assemblies are aligned to a common center and are structured to slidably engage one another for positive guidance of the punch and die tools without the need for other guidance by shafts, bars or the like. One of the punch assembly and die assembly can be non-fixedly carried by the drive mechanism, allowing the guidance of the engaged punch and die assemblies to define the relative positions of the tools. This arrangement eliminates any stack-up of tolerances between the assemblies and substantially reduces misalignment during stamping, including any misalignment that may be introduced by the press driving mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6279439
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a one-way clutch cage allows slits of the cage to be formed with a short punching distance, wherein the slits are narrow in width and the cage is less prone to deformation. In this method for manufacturing a one-way clutch cage, after slits 8, 10, 11, 12 have been formed, windows 17 are formed and then an outer annular part 18 is cut. Therefore, since the slits can be formed in a cylindrical member 2 that has not yet been subjected to the window formation process of the outer annular part cut-out process, and that is sufficiently strong, a radially diagonal punching operation can be performed to form the slits. During this radially diagonal punching operation, a boundary portion between a cylindrical portion 3 and an outer flange 5 is punched out from an inside of the cylindrical member toward an outside of the cylindrical member.

  • Patent number: 6279806
Abstract: A dispenser is disclosed for retaining and dispensing plastic bags which are wound on a core. The dispenser is made of heavy metal wire configured to provide curved tracks in which a core can ride. The dispenser includes a separating tongue which enables a customer to dispense the bags one by one by pulling on the free end of the outermost bag. In order to prevent freewheeling, a braking surface is provided which engages the roll and retards rotation. A supplemental braking force is provided by spring elements mounted within the tracks which apply a frictional force to the ends of core. The spring elements are oriented such that the force applied to the core by the springs as the roll rotates when the bags are dispensed, causes the roll to tend to move downwardly into engagement with the braking surface. The spring elements are attached to the dispenser at a point below the braking surface. As a result, the braking force applied by the springs increases as the size of the roll decreases.
