  • Patent number: 4785575
Abstract: A horticultural device utilizing magnetism for raising plants includes a plate-shaped section in which a fertilizer is imbedded, and a rod-shaped section extending from the bottom side of the plate-shaped section and having a fluid flow passageway, at least a portion of the device having a magnetic property. The rod-shaped section is thrust into soil surrounding a plant until the plant-shaped section contacts the soil surface. The fertilizer carried in the plate-shaped section is gradually dissolved and converted into a magnetized fertilizer solution by watering, the fertilizer solution dispersing itself into the soil through the liquid flow passageway of the rod-shaped section.

  • Patent number: 4770167
Abstract: An electrical having electric field producing electrodes either on the exterior or the interior surfaces, or both, of either an electrical cervical cap or an electrical diaphragm and supplying the electrodes with electric potential from miniaturized electrical cells embedded within an enlarged circular rim portion that surrounds the open mouth end of the device. Electrical is provided by the electrically excited electrodes and acts in conjunction with the cervical cap or diaphragm to prevent the migration of male sperm into the open end of the cervical canal of a female human being or other mammal. The electrical cervical cap or diaphragm device can be designed such that it is open at the apex and does not impede the free flow of menstrual and other fluid discharges through the cervical canal. It is fabricated with or covered by biologically inert material so that it can be retained in place in the cervical canal for indefinite periods as long as desired by the user for birth control purposes.

  • Patent number: 4768536
Abstract: The Motorized Walker is a device containing a frame assembly which a person walking can hold onto for support and help prevent a fall which might otherwise occur. This device need not be picked up between steps since an electric switch mechanism will activate a motor which will move the device the distance required between steps. This motorized feature permits support to be available at all times and the person using the device to walk faster than might otherwise be possible. This device also permits a person to walk where picking up a non-motorized walker might result in a fall since support is removed while the unit is being moved or where picking up a non-motorized walker is a formidable task.

  • Patent number: 4765319
Abstract: A multi-function hand splint for immobilizing a hand, wrist, and distal forearm of a user includes a sleeve made of a semi-rigid material. The sleeve includes an elongate shell of substantially C-shape with the opening of the C-shape located along the M-L plane of the forearm. This shell includes a dorsal shell portion and a volar shell portion. Extending from the dorsal shell portion is a dorsal hood having a metacarpal hood portion and a phalanx hood portion. The metacarpal hood portion forms a dorsiflexion angle of between 60.degree. to 80.degree. with the axis of the forearm so that a comfortable maximal dorsiflexion of the wrist is achieved. The metacarpal hood portion also forms a hood angle of between 75.degree. to 90.degree. with the phalanx hood portion. A palm arch supports extends from the volar shell portion in order to maintain the hand in the dorsal hood with the wrist in dorsiflexion and the metacarpal-phalangeal joints at an angle greater than about 90.degree. to 105.degree..

  • Patent number: 4753259
Abstract: A hinge element consists of a tube connector attached to the end of a tube, the end of the tube connector having a notched head portion. Pivotably attached to the notched head of the connector is a bracket element having a spherically shaped, notched end which engages the ends of a spring and a limiting wire. The limiting wire and spring are attached at their other ends to a cross bar and a second tube in which the hinge element and the first tube may slide coaxially. A hand grip is also disclosed which consists of a central grip portion with two cylindrical parallel holes having slits on the outside thereof. At the outer edges of the slits are ribs which, when the outer portions of the grip are tightened, focus the compressive forces generated by the tightening toward the tube portions, thereby creating a strong frictional hold. The hinge and grip configurations are found in a bitubular orthopedic crutch having three sections.

  • Patent number: 4747423
Abstract: A reducible walking aid is disclosed that incorporates three bitubular sections in slidable engagement with one another in the preferred embodiment. The first and third sections are connected via a pair of elastic cables attached to slidable, bidirectional hinge elements anchored to the near ends of the first and third sections, with the cables running through the tubular sections of the second section. To reduce the size of the walking aid, one pulls in opposite directions on the first and second bitubular sections. Once the hinges are generally clear of the second section, the first section is folded over the second section in one direction. The third section is folded in the opposite direction in a similar fashion to accomplish the complete folding of the crutch.
