  • Patent number: 4865080
Abstract: An elastomer die plug for sealing or plugging a hole in an object, such as a coolant passage in an injection molding die. The plug includes a flexible, hollow cylindrical sleeve and a core member longitudinally interengageable into the sleeve. The core member is slightly larger than the bore of the sleeve and when drawn into the sleeve expands it to fill the hole and secure the plug. The plug may be used either internally as a diverting plug or externally as a sealing plug. The inserting tool is designed to position the plug in the hole as desired, and to interengage the core member into the sleeve. The plug is inserted into the hole with the sleeve and core member separate. Then the sleeve is supported in position and the core is interengaged into the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4864713
Abstract: A method and apparatus for positioning tooling and riveting the apparatus including a frame provided with opposed riveting rams (96, 86) and clamps (34, 36). The first clamp (34) is extended above the work plane established by the outer surface of one workpiece (10) with the lower ram retracted. Next, the frame (26) is moved downwardly until the first clamp touches the workpiece. An encoder (140) measured the amount of first clamp collapse during overtravel of the frame after the first touch is sensed. The frame is now backed off this distance to establish a work line coextensive with the work plane. The lower clamp (36) is then raised to clamp the workpieces (10, 12) and drill carried by a sub-frame (66) will now drill aligned apertures through the workpieces. The subframe is indexed to another position to place rams (96, 86) is alignment with the apertures. The upper riveting ram (96) is then advanced to its full down position to set an upper cavity and is locked under high pressure.

  • Patent number: 4860423
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a vehicle window or like opening device regulator retractable winder apparatus and method of utilization of the same. The present disclosure provides a mounting plate rotatable along a first rotational axis and having rotatably mounted thereto a winder handle which is rotatable along a second rotational axis at an angle with the first rotational axis. The handle is allowed relative rotation with the mounting plate between two angular positions whereby rotation past either angular position will cause the handle to rotate along the first rotational axis. The handle in a preferred embodiment is biased into a recessed nonextended position when not in use.

  • Patent number: 4856943
Abstract: A method of providing interchangeability of aircraft wings, particularly providing a method of adjusting the angles of incidence and dihedral to compensate for differences in the twist angle between airfoils. The method comprises determining the angle of twist of an airfoil, having an airfoil attachment member, and supporting the airfoil on at least three supports spaced about said airfoil so that the airfoil attachment member is aligned with a hole boring means. The supports are adjusted so that the hole when bored through the airfoil attachment member provides the airfoil with angles of incidence and dihedral that substantially cancel the angle of twist. The hole is bored through the airfoil attachment member.

  • Patent number: 4856169
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for compressing a retainer ring to reduced assembly size and maintaining the compressed ring assembly size at an assembly location by internal containment means. The apparatus typically includes a ring compressing assembly for compressing the ring from the exterior and mandrel means disposed in the compressing means and around which the ring is compressed to assembly size. The mandrel means includes a lug-retaining groove means into which retainer ring lugs having special flats are compressed and retained interiorly of the ring to hold the ring at reduced assembly size. The compressed retainer ring is carried to the assembly location outside the compressing means on the mandrel means and is stripped from the mandrel means for final assembly internally in a part. The ring compressing assembly is carried on a first slide for movement between a ring load position and a ring assembly position.

  • Patent number: 4854028
Abstract: On a track for electromagnetically levitated vehicles, side guide rails are positioned on and secured to a beam-like support member forming the track by an apparatus made up of a transportation frame extending in the long direction of the support member and by installation truss frames located on and extending transversely of the transportation frame. Side guide rail installation arms are pivotally mounted on the installation truss frames. With the arms in an outward position the guide rails can be placed on and held by the arms. By pivoting the arms inwardly the side guide rails can be located along the outer sides of the support member. By raising the installation truss frame, the guide rails can be located relative to stators mounted on the underside of the support member. In addition, the final position of the guide rails can be established by moving the installation truss frames transversely of the transportation frame and relative to a plate strip on the upper surface of the support members.
