  • Patent number: 4607677
Abstract: A bracket for supporting the headrail of a venetian or pleated blind is provided with housings each having a partially open bottom and a detachable pivoting front plate to facilitate access to the interior of the bracket while mounting it on a wall, and to support the end of the headrail when the front plate is pivoted to the closed position. The housings are righthand or lefthand, but the front plate is interchangeable. The partially open bottom of the housing permits a pleated blind to be attached to one face of the headrail by means of a retaining member extending the full length of the headrail and to support the blind along a line forward of the rear of the headrail.

  • Patent number: 4598751
Abstract: A folding wall being composed of modules and substantially comprising a double row of panels foldable in zigzag fashion by means of hinges, wherein at least two panels being in opposite positions in the rows are pivotally interconnected by a coupling piece having two relatively spaced supporting members, while two blades of resilient material slidable between two supporting members are each fastened to an inner side of a panel, said resilient blades will cause an inwardly directed force upon the panels when the wall is drawn out, so moving these panels into a parallel position, and wherein a lever is connected at a distance from the supporting members by means of a hinge with the coupling piece, so when folding the wall, said lever is adapted to exert a pressure on the free ends of the resilient blades, causing an outwardly directed force upon the associated panels so that the zigzag folding of the wall is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 4597428
Abstract: A twin drum cable helical gear worm drive garage door opener which provides positive drive in either direction and ensures positive cable take-up and supply spool synchronization and ensures positive position relationship between the trolley and the operator head and has pre-assembled anchored cable ends which allow easy assembly and disassembly. The cable is oriented in the vertical plane which allows the point of cable latch to be in the same load/force plane and minimizes bowing of the support shaft under severe load conditions. The integral motor worm reels and support shaft results in a compact light weight unit and cable tensioning means are provided for allowing easy and simple adjustment of the unit when it is installed.

  • Patent number: 4593737
Abstract: A pleated fabric is connected between an upper fixed sill and a movable sill. The movable sill is between the upper fixed sill and a lower fixed sill. Strings are resiliently secured to the sills and slidably frictionally engaged with the movable sill symmetrical relative to the sills. The friction engagement tends to keep the movable sill in place at whatever location the sill is moved regardless the blind orientation relative to gravity. A projection symmetrically located on the movable sill receives an apertured connector attached to a pole. The connector closely engages the projection and movable sill for remotely moving the movable sill parallel to an axis which is symmetrical to the friction load produced by the strings. The connector transmits a force vector from the pole to the movable sill symmetrical with respect to the friction load of the strings to avoid tilting the movable sill during its movement.

  • Patent number: 4586552
Abstract: Rolling closure guide means. The guide means comprise two vertical guide members for use in guiding the edges of a rolling closure during opening or closing operations. Two guide strips are mounted on each guide member for guiding the edge of the closure between them. In one embodiment, the guide strips are manufactured in different thicknesses so that strips of the appropriate thickness, depending on the thickness of the closure, can be mounted on the guide members to guide the closure. In another embodiment, guide strips of only one thickness are used, along with one or more spacers if needed, to guide closures of different thickness in the guide members.

  • Patent number: 4574864
Abstract: This invention is an improvement over my U.S. Pat. No. 4,326,577 for a window screen arrangement comprising a novel roller combination for winding and unwinding the screen or shade element and at the same time positioning of the entire screen assembly in a desired position vertically on a window to provide partial screening in any part of the window while at the same time permitting additional screening provided by the operation of the screen upon a roller. The method of supporting the screen in the window opening comprises a novel arrangement of cords for support and positioning which permit the foregoing without the use of pulleys, springs, counter-weights, hooks, clamps or other positioning devices to hold the screen assembly in any given location by permitting its roller features to function.

  • Patent number: 4574863
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for closing or opening an aisle in a supermarket or similar store. The apparatus includes a support member having a vertical surface having upper and lower U-channels adapted to slidingly receive a first panel. A second panel is hinged to the first panel by a biased hinge. A bar member having a finger is attached to the upper channel and is adapted to fit into or be raised from a position where the finger inhibits sliding movement of a first panel which is adapted to be slid between unextended and extended positions, with the second panel capable of rotation between folded and unfolded positions in which the biased hinge releasably holds the second panel in said positions.

  • Patent number: 4572266
Abstract: A boat window having a removable screen which, in one embodiment, directly carries a louver and which can be easily installed in the window frame or removed therefrom as a single unit, so as to facilitate replacement with a conventional window screen, if desired, The louver forms a water shield which directly engages the screen frame adjacent to its top edge, so as to reduce the likelihood of water splashing through upper portions of the screen. The window comprises a frame body having a mounting flange and spigot, for installation in an opening in the boat hull. A window pane is hingedly connected to the mounting flange, and adapted to close off the space formed by the spigot. Most or all portions of the louver lie within the confines of the spigot, so as not to protrude any substantial extent, thereby reducing the likelihood of damage to the louver from inadvertent contact with other objects.

  • Patent number: 4566517
Abstract: A tubular structure particularly but not exclusively useful as a window shade support roller comprises a convolutely-wound tube structure having a number of closely-wound wraps or layers of paper stock, preferably Stress Kraft paper coated with adhesive over all or most of its surface and wound into close layer-upon-layer surface adhesion, approximately six such layers providing high beam strength with low wall section or thickness. In addition, the tubular structure has readily-removable segmental lengths provided by use of "tear strips", i.e., tear strings, tear tapes, etc., which are placed upon the paper prior to winding thereof so as to be wound into spiral form during the convolute winding of the layers of paper, whereby pulling of such a tear strip around and around the tube progressively severs the tube at that point.

  • Patent number: 4566516
Abstract: This invention relates to a jointed arm mechanism for an awning, the angle of inclination of which is adjustable. Preferably, there are tilt-up check means to prevent an unintentional tilt-up movement of the awning. The mechanism has support providing a horizontal tilting axis for a bearing block assembly. This assembly comprises a first jointed arm section pivoted on a joint of the bearing block and connected to a second jointed arm section through an intermediate joint. A tilting limiter for the tilting movement of the bearing block assembly about the tilting axis comprises a screw bolt which is pivotable about a horizontal swivel axis and has a counter-abutment means thereon cooperating with an abutment surface of the bearing block. This counter-abutment means comprise a body of rotation and is disengaged form the abutment surface when the awning is fully coiled on a shaft and the bearing block takes an initial position.

  • Patent number: 4565230
Abstract: A sealing member for the straight moving leading edge of a curtain system, such as is used for example in greenhouses to control the heating and/or lighting conditions, consists of an extruded L-section body with at least one flexible sealing element protruding from a first leg and a second flexible element protruding from the second leg when more complete sealing is required. Preferably the sealing element of the second leg protrudes perpendicularly, while that of the first leg protrudes at an angle away from the second leg. The two sealing elements extend the full length of the body and the curtain edge first engages the first element and bends it toward the first leg and then engages the second element, if present, and also bends it towards the first leg so as to form a sealing space between them. Both elements are held positively in sealing contact with the curtain leading edge by the resilience of the material of the elements.
