Patent number: 12059644Abstract: A fluid filtration device containing a composite filter media having a coarse porous polymeric nonwoven interlayer located between first and second polymeric fiber containing filter mats. The fiber diameters of the fibers in the first and second filter mats are different from each other, and each filter mat has a different pore size rating. The first and second polymeric fibers in the filter mats can be electrospun nanofibers. The interlayer has a coarser pore size when compared to the either the first or second filter mats, such that the resulting composite media has an increased dirt holding capacity compared to filter layers that are layered directly over each other without the presence of a coarse interlayer therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2015Date of Patent: August 13, 2024Assignee: EMD Millipore CorporationInventors: Sal Giglia, David Nhiem, Sherry Ashby Leon, Gabriel Tkacik

Patent number: 12059643Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of priming a ceramic filter element for removal of solid inclusions from liquid metal is provided. The filter element is contained in a filter box and at least two separate inductors are placed on opposed sides of the filter element. The method includes the steps of a) applying an excitation current to the inductors, b) adding sufficient liquid metal to cover an upstream side of the filter element, c) allowing the current induced in the liquid metal by the inductors to create Lorentz forces which press upon and stir the liquid metal such that the liquid metal is forced into the ceramic filter element, hence priming the filter element, and d) discontinuing the excitation current once a predetermined degree of priming has been obtained.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2019Date of Patent: August 13, 2024Assignee: Pyrotek, Inc.Inventor: Robert Fritzsch

Patent number: 12053722Abstract: Devices and methods associated with these devices for significantly improving the efficiency of an existing or new filter having a granular media filter bed. The methods and devices are designed to increase the height and hence overall volume of the filter bed to allow for longer filtration runs between washing or cleaning cycles of the granular media filter bed. One embodiment includes a multi-wash trough adapter that upon removal of an existing deep wash trough connects two shallow wash troughs or two shallow wash trough channels to an existing wash trough opening formed in a wall of a filter compartment. The shallow members have a height significantly less than the height of the existing deep wash trough, e.g., one third to one half of the height of the existing deep wash trough allowing the volume of the granular media filter bed to be significantly increased.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2021Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: Roberts Water Technologies, Inc.Inventors: R. Patent number: 12036488Abstract: A filtration device efficiently sizes removal of unnecessary substances adhering to and deposited on a filter medium of a filter element during filtration and backwashing (cleaning) from target (non-filtered) substances. The filter element captures substances in a fluid on one surface of a filter medium. The captured substances are separated from the filter medium during backwashing. A brush moves relative to the one surface of the filter medium and assists in separating the captured substances and sifting during the relative movement. The backwashing starts when a differential pressure between both surfaces of the filter medium exceeds a predetermined value, or the like while performing the filtration, and returns to filtration after the differential pressure is eliminated or after a predetermined time elapses. The brush sifts the unnecessary substances from the captured substances and passes the removal to the other surface side during the filtration.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2017Date of Patent: July 16, 2024Assignee: FUJI FILTER MANUFACTURING CO., LTD.Inventors: Yuichi Takahashi, Hiroyuki Takahashi, Akinori Horigome

Patent number: 12037266Abstract: A specially functionalized composite filter material with a high specific surface area is used to adsorb PFAs from potable water. In a preferred embodiment, the base filter material is granular activated carbon (GAC), which is sequentially coated with a thin layer of polydopamine, a thin layer of partially oxidized iron, and a thin coating of octadecylamine. After PFAs are adsorbed onto the coated GAC particles, the PFAs are removed by a rinsing process, and remain in the rinse effluent. GAC particles are recovered and recoated as needed to restore their adsorptive capacity. The PFA-containing effluent is treated using photochemical processes to destroy the PFA molecules. The now PFA-free effluent can be disposed of as a non-hazardous material. The composite filter material works in systems ranging from small passive systems for personal use to large scale, high-flow-rate utility water treatment systems.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2020Date of Patent: July 16, 2024Assignee: CoreWater Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Cody M.
