    Abstract: A method for indicating one-way latency in a data network, with continuous clock synchronization, between first and second node having clocks that are not synchronized with each other includes a continuous synchronization session and a measurement session. The method repetitively sends predetermined synchronization messages from the first node to the second node and from the second node to the first node, calculates a round trip time for each message at the first node, updates a synchronization point if the calculated round trip time is smaller than a previously calculated round trip time, stores the updated synchronization points of a synchronization window, and calculates a virtual clock from the updated synchronization points of the synchronization window. The measurement session collects multiple measurements of one-way latency between the first and second nodes using the virtual clock, and generates a latency profile by interpolating the multiple measurements.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for performing transmission data rate allocation in a high speed wireless communications network. A macro control loop with the network of base stations on one side and all the subscriber stations on the other side. Subscriber station selects a rate based on the amount of data queued for transmission (100). Adjusts this rate based on the available power headroom of the subscriber station (102). This adjusted transmission rate is then adjusted again to account for protection of base stations in the candidate set of the subscriber station (104). This rate is then adjusted in accordance with busy tone signals indicative of the loading conditions of active set base stations of the subscriber station (108). The base stations react to these action by refreshing measurements of their instantaneous traffic load and providing feedback in the form of soft busy tones. The algorithm is named Closed Loop Resource Allocation.

    Abstract: A telephone conferencing system includes a voice services equipment (VSE) allowing a number of telephone calls to be connected together to form a conferencing function. Parties wishing to set up a conference agree on one of their telephone numbers being designated as a “link number”. The conference participants dial into the system and then each enters the link number. The system stores the link number in a link number store when the first caller calls in. The system also checks the caller's calling line identity (CLI) with the entered link number, and the conference will not be enabled unless there is a match; thus, the conference cannot be initiated until the link number participant has called in. Any other participant calling earlier can be put on “hold”. A number of different conferences may be taking place simultaneously, and participants will be grouped together correctly in their conference in accordance with the entered link number.

A switch unit switches internally processable cells depending on routes thereof. For reverse communications, internally processable cells are sent from the switch unit to a packet generating unit. The packet generating unit generates packets based on information carried by the payloads of the internally processable cells.

    Abstract: In a bus type LAN, the data transmitted from a terminal (14) is detected by an adapter (1) connected to one end of a bus (3), and in response thereto the adapter (1) transmits a pulse signal onto the bus (3). An adapter (2) connected to the other end of the bus (3) receives the data transmitted from the terminal (14) and detects its source terminal address. A difference in time between the arrival of the data from the terminal (14) and the arrival of the pulse signal from the adapter (1) is measured by a counter circuit (21), and the count value obtained is stored in a memory (23), forming a pair with the corresponding source terminal address. Thus, the count value can be obtained for each terminal during the normal operation of the LAN. The data of the memory (23) are extracted by a personal computer (5), where the physical position of each terminal is calculated in accordance with the bus propagation velocity, and is displayed or printed out as a physical constitution diagram.

Correctness of the position of the head word of the packet is verified on the basis of whether a synchronizing code (Cd) indicating the head word repeatedly appears in the cycles of packets. It is determined whether a cycle of a packet has passed on the basis of a value counted in synchronization with an extraction signal (Dout), eliminating the necessity for the FIFO required in conventional devices. As a result, size reduction and cost reduction of the device are implemented.

    Abstract: Access to a switching network of an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switch is scheduled with a reservation ring that automatically determines the number of channels populating the switching network during a switch cycle. The reservation ring is a distributed arbiter that resolves conflicts arising among a plurality of input channels for access to a plurality of output channels of the switching network. Each input channel populating the switching network is coupled to an arbitration unit of the reservation ring. The arbitration units on the ring determine when an arbitration cycle is complete for each of the arbitration units populating the ring. This enables the number of channels populating the switching network to increase or decrease without having to reconfigure the reservation ring.
