  • Patent number: 7260922
Abstract: A monitoring system for monitoring one or more packaging material conversion machines includes one or more sensors for monitoring one or more operating characteristics of the one or more conversion machines. The system also includes a controller in communication with the one or more sensors. The controller evaluates the one or more operating characteristics of the one or more conversion machines to thereby provide diagnostic, inventory and machine usage information. In addition, a method of monitoring one or more packaging material conversion machines includes sensing an operating characteristic of the one or more conversion machines and evaluating the operating characteristic of the one or more conversion machines. The sensed operating characteristics may be evaluated either local to the conversion machines or at a remote site, thereby providing a substantial amount of flexibility.

  • Patent number: 7223224
Abstract: A part of a distal end portion of an airbag is tucked into an interior thereof. A plurality of overlapping longitudinal folds are formed in first and second halves of the airbag, and the folded distal and proximal portions of the airbag are each folded substantially transverse to the longitudinal folds so as to form two compact fold bodies.

  • Patent number: 7207159
Abstract: An unsealing method for unsealing a packaging structure for a liquid container in which the packaging structure includes a covering member having an air vent sealing portion, a liquid supply sealing portion, and a connecting region which covers a connecting side of the liquid container and which connects the air vent and liquid supply scaling portions. The liquid supply sealing portion effects non-adhering sealing, and the connecting portion provides resistance against unsealing of the liquid supply portion. The covering member also has first and second regions which respectively include first and second resistance generation portions for generating resistance against unsealing. According to the unsealing method, the air vent is unsealed, the first resistance generating portion is separated from the liquid container, the liquid supply portion is unsealed, and the second resistance generating portion is separated.

  • Patent number: 6837840
Abstract: A sheet processing apparatus for folding a sheet bundle at a predetermined position includes paired rotating bodies for folding the sheet bundle having nip portions, a pressing device for pressing the predetermined position of the sheet bundle into the nip portions of the paired rotating bodies, and a device connected to the paired rotation bodies for providing rotation to the paired rotating bodies. A pulling force of the rotating bodies to pull the sheet bundle pressed into the nip portions of the rotating bodies has an amount which does not separate a sheet of the sheet bundle contacting the rotating bodies from the subsequent sheets in the sheet bundle when pulling the sheet bundle.

  • Patent number: 6718730
Abstract: An improved case packer machine is disclosed, of the type where containers are dropped through grid fingers to an empty case positioned on a lift table. The case packer machine of the present invention includes a flap opener which includes a pair of shoes mounted to an air cylinder. The shoes are extended by the air cylinder to contact and open the leading flap. The lifting table of the present invention is motor driven and controlled to limit the shock loading experienced by the containers as they are positioned within the cases. The lifting table includes a pair spur gears driven by the motor in meshing arrangement with a pair rack gears each mounted to a table and a novel gear guide to maintain proper engagement between the racks and gears and further to provide for backlash adjustment between the gears.

  • Patent number: 6385950
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming the bottom of a carton on a form, fill and seal packaging machine such as the TETRA REX® packaging machine includes a sealing station for a bottom forming station that includes a pair of rotating spindles. Each spindle has a pre-folding member and a final folding member for infolding the bottom panels of the carton. The sealing station also includes a guide plate for guiding the final folded bottom panels of the carton to a sealing plate for permanent sealing. The bottom formed carton provides a tight seal, particularly for an over-folded carton, for use in packaging a product.

  • Patent number: 6185900
Abstract: A leading end of packaging material is grasped in a packaging material holder while a load is wrapped. Packaging material is dispensed from a packaging material dispenser, and relative rotation is provided between the dispenser and a load to wrap packaging material around the load. The packaging material holder is positioned on the rotating surface of a turntable but is isolated from any electrical or fluid power source of a rotatable surface of the turntable. During the wrapping cycle, a spring builds and stores energy as the packaging material holder moves downstream along the turntable, automatically releasing the leading end of the packaging material and automatically grasping a trailing end of the packaging material. At least a portion of the packaging material is cut between the packaging material holder and the load, and the spring releases the stored energy to move the packaging material holder upstream toward the dispenser.

  • Patent number: 6050060
Abstract: A unit and method for forming a group of products on a wrapping machine, whereby a continuous supply conveyor feeds a succession of products to an input of a group-forming screw device; and a step-operated supply device, located at an output of the screw device, is controlled by a sensor for detecting the length of each group, to only feed complete groups to a wrapping unit of the wrapping machine.
