  • Patent number: 4478140
Abstract: A fryer for cooking foods by immersing the food in heated oil. The oil is circulated through a cooking tank and through a separate heat exchanger. The rate of oil flow is fast enough to maintain turbulent flow in the heat exchanger for maximum heat transfer to the oil from the heat exchanger surfaces. High velocity oil flow in the tank provides maximum heat transfer from the oil to the food being cooked. The fryer may also include a cylindrical drum for carrying food through the cooking tank. The cooking tank will be semi-cylindrical, and food is carried by perforate shelves carried by the drum. The shelves are angled so food slides off a shelf when the shelf moves out of the tank; and, after some further rotation of the drum the shelf can receive food. The food is carried around the drum, preheated by being held over the heated oil, then moved through the oil. The drum can be loaded and unloaded from the front.

  • Patent number: 4474108
Abstract: An automatic can crushing machine, preferably used for compressing standard aluminum 12 ounce beverage cans, is constructed of a housing having an angularly inclined feed chute for receiving a supply stack of cans to be crushed therein and an adjacent, parallel-arranged crushing station in which a piston reciprocates back and forth to crush the cans one at a time delivered from the feed chute. The feed chute is adapted to contain a serial stack of spent cans which are disposed, under the influence of gravity, to pass downward in the chute toward an ejection end. An ejector mechanism in the form of a plunger passes transversely through the ejection end of the chute to force a can about to be crushed through a delivery opening covered by a flap valve for deposit into a trough mounted in the crushing station. A crushing piston reciprocates within the trough. Movement of the crushing piston along the trough longitudinally compresses the can to approximately one-eighth of its original length over an outlet gap.

  • Patent number: 4465434
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a composite turbine wheel comprising a hub having a plurality of radially extending blades thereon. The hub and blades comprise a plurality of discrete axially spaced layers of radially extending carbon fibers and circumferentially extending carbon fibers. Hoop strength is given to the hub of the turbine wheel by the circumferentially oriented fibers and radial strength is given to the blades by the radially oriented fibers. Transmission of shear loads between the radial and circumferential fibers is minimized.

  • Patent number: 4460311
Abstract: Apparatus and method for minimizing and maintaining substantially constant the effective blade tip clearance between the outer free ends of rotor blades and an adjacent casing shroud of an axial-flow turbine of a gas turbine engine. The casing shroud includes a portion facing the hot gas stream and the outer rotor blade ends and a packing of high heat-resistance, high erosion-resistance ceramic elements secured to the shroud via a metal ring to face the blade tips. A heat insulator is interposed between the packing and the metal ring. A perforated conduit is mounted outside the metal ring for blowing cooling fluid against the metal ring on the side thereof remote from the insulator for equalizing the expansion of the metal ring to that of the turbine wheel. The ceramic packing includes projections facing the outer ends of the blades which are tapered so that they are easily broken off when coming into contact with the blades during running-in of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4457219
Abstract: This invention relates to an annular rotating roaster. The user may apply a cone-shaped flame separator which has numerous outstanding scales on its inner wall, when making a fire in the roaster. Each of the scales has a perforation beneath. The heat from the burning charcoal goes through the perforations and the scales to the meat. Thus, the meat won't be scorched. In addition, the degree of heat exposure is adjusted by the turning handle. Therefore, tender meat is produced. Moreover, the fat from the hot meat does not drop directly on the burning charcoal. As a result, no smoke or ashes rise, keeping the meat from being contaminated.
