Patent number: 9900463Abstract: There is described a new coding approach for printed document authentication, one objective of which is to increase the difficulty of copying. In addition, this new coding approach provides better performance compared to other 2D coding technologies under certain constraints. The new coding technique requires less print space in comparison to other coding techniques. This is achieved by optimizing some of the features which are used in standard 2D-codes for stabilization and which are necessary for e.g. mobile applications. Furthermore, the code can be decomposed in elementary units, or “byte-units” which can be widely spread over a text document. Such “byte-units” can in particular be used for integration in text symbols. If a document protected with such a coding is copied, at least some of these symbols will be extensively degraded by the copying process. Therefore, copy detection is intrinsically achieved thanks to the new coding technique.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2015Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: KBA-NotaSys SAInventors: Jan-Friedrich Ehlenbröker, Volker Lohweg

Patent number: 9888152Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a conversion unit, a correction unit, an image forming unit, a measurement unit, first, second, and third generation units, a reading unit, an input unit, and a determination unit. Image data of a color components indicating one pixel based on a multidimensional table is converted and then corrected based on one-dimensional tables corresponding to the color components. An image is formed on a sheet based on the corrected image data. A measuring image formed on the sheet is measured. The multidimensional table can be generated based on a multi-color first measuring image. The one-dimensional table can be generated based on a second measuring image. A pattern image formed on the sheet is read. The one-dimensional table can be generated based on a pattern image for each of the color components on the sheet. Input user instructions indicated how the one-dimensional table is generated.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2016Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Tomohisa Itagaki

Patent number: 9883078Abstract: A graphics processing method receives a plurality of contiguous pixels, as a single input, including at least a first pixel span associated with a first content type and a second pixel span associated with a second content type. At least one dithering matrix is associated with each of the pixel spans based on the corresponding content type, so that the first and the second pixel spans are associated with different dithering matrices. The single input of the received plurality of pixels is then concurrently processed using an SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) type processor by referring to different dithering matrices depending on the content type of the corresponding pixel spans.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2016Date of Patent: January 30, 2018Assignee: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Sheng Wu

Patent number: 9876937Abstract: Methods and devices create a first halftone image and a different second halftone image from a continuous tone image. A third halftone image is produced by identifying pixels that are common to both the first and second halftone images. A toner reduction mask is applied to the third halftone image to produce a fourth halftone image (the fourth halftone image has only holes and remaining ones of the common pixels). The holes are added to the first halftone image to create a reduced-toner halftone image. Further, edges of features within the continuous tone image are detected (to identify edge pixels of the edge features) and such edge pixels are added to the reduced-toner halftone image to produce a print-ready halftone image. Finally, such methods print the print-ready halftone image on print media.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2017Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Sudhagar Subbaian, Sainarayanan Gopalakrishnan

Patent number: 9807281Abstract: An image processing apparatus sets a threshold value matrix for each of multiple color materials, and uses the set threshold value matrix to acquire a first threshold value. On the other hand, the image processing apparatus sets reference data on the basis of multivalued data of that color material. Then, the image processing apparatus calculates a second threshold value matrix by performing a predetermined process on the first threshold value on the basis of the reference data for that color material. Further, by comparing the second threshold value with the multivalued data, quantization data for printing a dot is generated. When doing this, the threshold value matrix and the reference data for that color material are set so as to make the graininess of a dot pattern of that color material lower than the graininess of a mixed color dot pattern obtained by mixing dot patterns of the respective multiple color materials.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2016Date of Patent: October 31, 2017Assignee: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Yuto Kajiwara, Akitoshi Yamada, Okinori Tsuchiya

Patent number: 9774878Abstract: In an example, a processor-readable medium stores code representing instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to receive an image, a graphical element, and embedding information. The processor further encodes a binary value representing the embedding information into the graphical element. The zeros and ones from the binary value are distinguished in the graphical element by a difference in luminance values applied to segments of the graphical element. The processor further combines the encoded graphical element with the image without altering the image.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2013Date of Patent: September 26, 2017Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Clayton L.
