  • Patent number: 5259559
Abstract: An irrigation system for watering a group of large fields on which crops are grown. A water well is arranged on each field and an electric motor driven pump produces each water well. A motor/generator supplies current to an electric motor of each water well by a step-up transformer having a low voltage primary and a high voltage secondary winding to receive current from the electrical generator. The primary of a several step down transformers are connected in parallel to supply current to an irrigation pump motor. Each electric motor has a contact connected to current carrying electrical conductors that are buried below the surface of the ground. Well water is conveyed to a pivot type traveling irrigation system having a rotating coupling by which water is conveyed from said pump into the sprinkler system. All of the electrical conductors interconnecting the transformers and pump motors are placed underground.

  • Patent number: 5154348
Abstract: Apparatus for repeatedly sweeping a snow-gun nozzle through a desired angular range to more evenly distributed man-made snow produced by a snow-gun. Such apparatus comprises a bi-directional electric motor for driving a rotatably mounted snow-gun support in opposite directions about an axis of rotation, a pair of mechanical stops for limiting rotational movement of the snow-gun support to a predetermined angular range which defines a maximum sweep angle for the nozzle, and circuitry for sensing motor current. A comparator circuit, operatively connected to the output of the current-sensing circuit, functions to reverse the current flow through the motor, thereby changing the direction of rotational movement of the snow-gun support, whenever the current through the motor exceeds a preset threshold level. Such level is reached whenever the support's rotational movement has been limited by one of the two mechanical stops.

  • Patent number: 5115975
Abstract: A replaceable cartridge for a diffusion device for a volatilizable substance includes a primary control of diffusion rate of the substance into the surrounding atmosphere. The cartridge includes a base and a cover, and a membrane separating the cartridge into two chambers. The membrane has characteristics for controlling the rate of passage of a vaporized form of the substance from a first chamber, wherein the substance is stored, to a second chamber. A vent structure in the cover provides control over diffusion of the vaporized substance to the atmosphere. The diffusion device may include a heater or other catalyst device for imparting energy to the cartridge, thereby to volatilize the substance, and a timing circuit for control of heater operation. Additionally, the device may include a structure to assist proper placement of the cartridge adjacent the catalyst device by sensing at least a partial insertion of the cartridge and by automatically completing the insertion and positioning process thereof.
