  • Patent number: 9282768
Abstract: Cigarette filter rods having individual objects positioned at predetermined intervals therein are prepared by transferring the individual objects from a rotating horizontal pan to a rotating vertical wheel and then depositing the object into a web of filter tow. Each object is positioned within the moving web of tow. The web filter material and the objects positioned within the web are introduced into a rod-forming unit wherein the rod is formed. The rate of feed of the filter tow, the rate of rotation of the horizontal pan and the vertical wheel are controlled relative to one another such that objects are positioned at predetermined intervals along the rod. Cigarette filter elements having well controlled amounts of flavorant contained therein can be made from the rods.

  • Patent number: 9254072
Abstract: A hydraulic motor able to use low-pressure or high-pressure fluids such as water for a large number of applications. The motor uses a flow of water that is controlled and directed through a system of supply tubes to a chamber that fills with the fluid, moving a piston that produces an action such as rotating a shaft to turn a brush. Fluid fills the chamber through a system of opening and closing valves that direct and control the flow of the fluid so that the piston exerts pressure against a spring until it reaches a maximum position. A system of valves then reverses the flow of fluid until the piston is pushed in the opposite direction, producing an action such as turning a brush through the alternating application of water flows. A one-way gear box may be used to control the action of a shaft, which may be directed to turn in the same direction or in alternating directions to accomplish a wide variety of applications such as an hydraulic brush, gearbox speed increaser, generator or washing machine.

  • Patent number: 9200615
Abstract: A vertical-axis wind turbine system includes a novel wind turbine having helical shaped blades with serrated edges that exhibit unique airfoil characteristics. Such innovative designs of blades improve the efficiency of the turbine. Airfoil characteristics of such blades make it effective at lower wind speeds than conventional wind turbines. The exemplary system is expandable for more efficiency when the number of turns in the helical shape of blades is increased. Such a design of blades in a wind turbine generate airflow and drag in the upward direction affecting other wind turbine(s) located vertically above in close proximity. This system is modularized with many smaller wind turbines sharing the same vertical axis arranged one above another in close proximity to each other. Such an incremental design of modularized wind turbines is uniquely used to scale up for increased power generation needs.

  • Patent number: 9179655
Abstract: A fishing lure includes a blade having first and second opposing ends each having a generally circular periphery and connected by a central bridge portion having first and second parallel sides. The first and second sides extend substantially tangent to the peripheries of the first and second ends, respectively. A longitudinal axis of the blade passes through geometric centers of the first and second ends; a lateral axis extends perpendicular thereto. A spin hole is provided midway along the longitudinal axis for encircling the line, and a fold line is formed at a 15-degree offset from the lateral axis, passing through the spin hole, extending substantially perpendicular to the first and second sides of the bridge portion. The blade is folded about the fold line through an angle of 30 to 90 degrees, causing the blade to spin even when the lure is pulled through water at slow speeds.

  • Patent number: 9156224
Abstract: Method and apparatus for making a plastic bag or pouch wherein a plastic web is moved in a longitudinal direction and a tape made from an elongated plastic film is fed to the web. The tape is made of a pair of elongated attachment lanes of complementary fastening elements sealed to the film to function as attachable-detachable closures. The lanes extend parallel and are spaced apart. A perforation line is formed in the film between lanes, and a flange is defined on one side of only one of said lanes. The lanes are separated and pairs of lengths are cut off said lanes. The pairs of cut off lengths are sealed on a diagonal to the moving web in different directions to form V-shaped closures with the lane having the flange on one side thereof sealed to the web by the flange only. Bags are formed from the moving web. An intermediate product is described consisting of a narrow substrate having V-shaped closures spaced longitudinally for placement on a moving web in a bag making machine.

  • Patent number: 9108199
Abstract: An automatic test tube recapper is presented that is capable of recapping thousands of test tubes per day. Specially designed caps are poured into an upper triangular shaped hopper. The randomly oriented caps are transported by a pair of belts to an upper slide. Misaligned caps are rejected and fall back into the hopper, while properly aligned caps slide down the slide to a cap catch, one at a time. A hammer shaft then drives the cap into the top of the test tube until the cap is firmly seated. The hammer shaft reverses, which withdraws the shaft upwards. As the hammer shaft moves upwards, it triggers a pair of arms that allows another cap to fall into the cap catch. A conveyor also automatically moves the next uncapped test tube under the cap. The cycle then repeats itself.
