  • Patent number: 11352853
Abstract: A system and method directed to performing a single trip cementing operation at spaced out locations within a hydrocarbon zone during the construction of a wellbore using a wellbore fluid communication tool. In an embodiment, the tool is deployed on a tubular string above the hydrocarbon zone and comprises a housing including at least one radial port, a seal assembly, an outer sleeve assembly having a door assembly operable to translate across the seal assembly while closed, an inner mandrel and a seat assembly. The tool facilitates the placement of cement within a wellbore annulus from an uphole position in lieu of at the bottom of the wellbore thereby minimizing the pressure required to perform cementing job. At the same time, the ability for the door assembly to translate across the seal assembly while closed ensures the seal is not damaged from repetitive opening and closing of the door assembly.

  • Patent number: 11346201
Abstract: According to aspects of the present disclosure, systems and methods for a closed-loop speed/position control mechanism. An example system may include a housing and a planetary gearbox disposed within the housing, wherein a ring gear of the planetary gearbox is coupled to the housing, a sun gear of the planetary gearbox is coupled to a drive shaft, and a planetary carrier of the planetary gearbox is coupled to an output shaft. A controller may receive measurements from sensors proximate to the output shaft and use those measurements to transmit control signals to change the rotation of the drive shaft. In this way, the output shaft may be rotated independently of the housing by controlling the rotation of the drive shaft. In example systems, the output shaft may be a sonde or an offset mandrel coupled to a drill bit. The rive shaft may be coupled to a fluid-controlled controlled drive mechanism and rotation may be controlled by adjusting flow control valve.

  • Patent number: 11319759
Abstract: An openhole interval of a well may be sealed by deploying a liquified phase transformation material to the openhole interval and allowing it to harden. In at least one example, this may be performed in a single step of building and maintaining pressure. The pressure may rupture a membrane, to introduce a fluid into a chamber with a reactive material (e.g. powder) in a delivery chassis, whereupon the fluid may exothermically combine with the reactive material to liquify the solid phase transformation material. The same applied pressure may also deliver the liquified phase transformation material to a deployment chassis, which then distributes the liquified phase transformation material under pressure to the openhole interval of the well. Various delivery chassis, deployment chassis, and related compositions and methods are disclosed as well.

  • Patent number: 11313202
Abstract: A system, method, and tool for controlling fluid in a wellbore. The system comprises a tubing string locatable in the wellbore and a crossover tool for enabling reverse circulation in the wellbore. The crossover tool comprises a tool body, a sleeve, a drag block assembly, and a packer assembly. The tool body comprises a bore in fluid communication with the tubing string and a valve in the bore. The sleeve is located in the tool body and controls the valve based on the axial position of the sleeve in the tool body. The drag block assembly is coupled to the sleeve through the tool body and engages the wellbore to resist axial movement of the sleeve relative to the tool body. The packer assembly is coupled to the tool body and creates a fluid barrier in the annulus formed between the tubing string and the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 11299940
Abstract: A rotary latch release mechanism includes axially-aligned upper and lower rotary latch components carried on and rotationally coupled to upper and lower latch assemblies, respectively. The latch release mechanism is movable from an axially-latched position to an axially-unlatched position in response to relative rotation between the upper and lower rotary latch components. The latch release mechanism has a movable land surface that acts in response to relative axial displacement to induce the relative rotation required to release the latch. The latch release mechanism may be configured such that the axial movement of the movable land surface will cause the relative axial movement required to release the latch in combination with the required rotation. Accordingly, the rotary latch mechanism operates in response to externally-controlled axial movement of a movable land surface carried by the latch release mechanism, without requiring externally-induced rotation.
