Patent number: 9392274Abstract: An apparatus for coding video information according to certain aspects is disclosed. Multi-layer video steams including a base layer and an enhancement layer can be coded. Predictors generated for the base layer and the enhancement layer can be combined to form a final predictor of the enhancement layer. Each predictor can be weighted such that those predictors which are more likely to produce high quality results can be factored more heavily in the final predictor. The conditions upon which the respective weights for enhancement layer predictors and base layer predictors are determined may be implicitly derived from the predictors or characteristics thereof. Alternatively, data may be generated explicating indicating the weights or providing information from which the weights can be determined.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: July 12, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Xianglin Wang, Marta Karczewicz

Patent number: 8654858Abstract: A data stream encoder eliminates duplicate transmission units in a transmitted data stream in which the detected duplicate may not be the immediately preceding transmission unit. A data aggregator transmits a stream of data by identifying a frame interval, or timing interval, corresponding to the time to send a frame of data in the stream. Each of the frames includes a predetermined number of blocks. Configurations identify repetition patterns in the blocks of successive frames, thus looking backward a frame interval to identify a previous corresponding block in the preceding frame. The corresponding transmission block need not be the immediately preceding block or transmission unit. For certain types of data, successive frames exhibit the same or similar patterns in the blocks of data defining the frame. Therefore, the encoder identifies duplicate blocks in successive frames, and transmits only the blocks that differ from a counterpart block in the previous frame.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2006Date of Patent: February 18, 2014Assignee: Comtech EF Data Corp.Inventor: Andrei E. Patent number: 7996876Abstract: A method for distributing a digital motion picture to multiple theaters in a region via terrestrial wireless communication. The motion picture is divided into chunks, and the chunks are transmitted to particular initial seed theaters in the region. To facilitate the initial seeding, downlink bandwidth on various wireless links is dynamically increased. Once the initial seeding is complete, the downlink bandwidth is decreased and is preferably equalized substantially with uplink bandwidth. The theaters in the region are then directed to begin peer-to-peer sharing of the chunks with each other, possibly through use of BitTorrent or other cooperative downloading process from the initial seed theaters. Ultimately, all of the theaters in the region thereby obtain all of the chunks of the motion picture and can conveniently present the motion picture to audiences.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2010Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: John M.
