Patent number: 4958287Abstract: An electronic control system for controlling an automatic transmission determines a gear position based on vehicle speed data immediately before a power supply is cut off. The gear position is determined during a transient period occurring after the electronic control system is reset by the power supply cutoff, until the control system resumes stable operation. Even when the electronic control system is reset by the instantaneous power supply cutoff while the vehicle is travelling, the electronic control system allows the vehicle to run safely without erroneous gear shifting immediately afterwards.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1988Date of Patent: September 18, 1990Assignee: Isuzu Motors LimitedInventors: Toshiya Sugimura, Hiroshi Yoshimura

Patent number: 4954976Abstract: Method for simulating a dyed fabric, in which an image of the dyed fabric is produced on a display device, such as a color monitor, or on a hardcopy. The fabric to be simulated consists of dyed yarns woven into each other which each consist of interrupted pieces of particular shape at the surface perceptible to the eye. The colors of all the points in the total surface of each simulated shape are summed and corrected so that the average color is approximately the same as the spectrophotometrically measured color of the shape of the fabric in reality, The simulated shape is embodied in a manner such that it is approximately the same as the shape of the yarn which the eye will observe when observing the fabric in reality and which is provided with shading at the edges when it passes over and beneath other yarns. For the purpose of defining the position of the surface of the simulated shape in the three-dimensional space, the shape is chosen as an elliptical shape between two yarns passing thereover.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1988Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: Sophis Systems N.V.Inventor: Kevin K. Patent number: 4953091Abstract: An electronic control system for operating a torque converter clutch during a transmission gearshift includes a vehicle speed sensor and engine speed sensor, a hydrodynamic torque converter located between the engine and the transmission, a solenoid-operated hydraulic valve, which engages and disengages the torque converter clutch in accordance with the energized and deenergized state of the solenoid in accordance with the logic of the control system. The converter clutch is locked while operating in the original gear ratio, then unlocks during the gearshift, and relocks after the upshift is completed. The speed ratio of the torque converter is rapidly determined in terms of the number of clock ticks occurring between pulses whose frequency is proportional to engine speed. The current speed ratio is determined during interrupts occurring at short intervals during a background pass.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1988Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Paul A. Patent number: 4953112Abstract: A software model of the auditory characteristics of an auditory prosthesis is stored independently of the actual auditory prosthesis being fitted to determine the acoustic parameters to be utilized. A transfer function of the auditory characterictics of the individual auditory prosthesis to be fitted, or of an exemplary model of such an auditory prosthesis, is created, transformed into a table, or other usable form, and stored in software usable by the automated fitting program. The automated fitting program may then "test" or try by iterative process, the various settings for the acoustic parameters of the auditory prosthesis and determine accurately the results without actual resort the physical auditory prosthesis itself.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1988Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Gregory P. Patent number: 4951206Abstract: A throttle valve opening detecting apparatus of an automatic transmission for detecting an angular position or opening of a throttle valve for controlling the amount of air-fuel mixture reaching cylinders of a vehicle engine that includes a throttle valve position sensor for providing an output proportional to an angular position or opening of the throttle valve. A memory device memorizes a minimum value of the output to set a reference output for a closed position of the throttle valve. A renewing device decreasingly renews the reference output when the throttle valve position sensor provides an output smaller than the reference output set in the reference output. The renewing device increasingly renews the reference output when the throttle valve position sensor provides an output larger than the reference output and smaller than a preset reference output for a predetermined or preselected period of time.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1988Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: Mazda Motor CorporationInventor: Takahiro Kyohzuka

Patent number: 4949276Abstract: A method is disclosed for efficiently protecting dynamic compressors from surge under changing inlet conditions and in response to flow disturbances of varying size and speed. An antisurge control system based on this disclosed method will compute the relative proximity of the compressor operating point to its surge limit as a multi-variable parameter which is self-compensated for changes in gas composition, inlet temperature and pressure, compressor efficiency, guide-vane position, and rotational speed. A combination of adaptive closed- and open-loop control responses is used to maintain a margin of safety between the operating point and the surge limit. Both the safety margin and the magnitude of the open-loop response are proportional to the rate at which the operating point approaches the surge limit, thus maximizing process efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1988Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Compressor Controls Corp.Inventors: Naum Staroselsky, Saul Mirsky, Paul A. Patent number: 4949119Abstract: An apparatus for creating a realistic feel for a simulated gearshift, comprising a simulated gearshift for a simulated transmission in a simulated vehicle and having a gearshift lever and a simulated shift pattern for simulating the look and movements through an actual shift pattern of an actual gearshift in a vehicle. A pivoting mechanism allows the gearshift lever to pivot about at least two axes. An electrically operable clutch receives a control signal controlling the amount of force applied to the pivoting mechanism to cause resistance to movement by said shift lever along at one of the axes. A positional sensor array generates a signal from which the position of the shift lever in the simulated gearshift pattern may be ascertained. A strain gauge coupled to the gearshift lever senses the degree of strain in the gearshift lever and generates a signal telling whether an operator is pulling or pushing on the gearshift lever and in what direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1989Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Atari Games CorporationInventors: Rick L. Patent number: 4945503Abstract: In a hardware simulator for use in successively carrying out simulations of gates arranged in a logic circuit, a plurality of connection data signals are stored in a connection memory to specify connections among the gates while a plurality of gate species data signals are stored in a gate species memory to represent each species of the gates. Responsive to a test data signal, a processing circuit executes each simulation of the gates with references to both the connection and the gate species data signals read out of the connection memory and the gate species memory, and supplies a simulation result signal to one of several status memories. Each simulation may be carried out in a pipeline fashion. Alternatively, the connection data signals can be derived from a modified logic circuit obtained by rearranging the logic circuit.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1987Date of Patent: July 31, 1990Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Shigeru Takasaki

Patent number: 4937750Abstract: A microcomputer-based electronic control system for a full time four wheel drive torque transfer case monitors the relative slip between the front and rear output shafts of the transfer case, and generates a signal to engage an electromagnetic clutch for a predetermined time period in the event a predetermined slip threshold is exceeded. Below a predetermined vehicle road speed, the electronic control utilizes a pulse counting technique to determine whether or not an excessive slip condition occurs. Above the predetermined speed, the control compares the front and rear output shafts speeds to determine whether there is excessive slippage. During the first portion of the clutch engagement period, the clutch is fully engaged while, during the last portion, a partial clutch engagement signal is generated to cause the clutch to gradually move from a fully engaged condition to a fully disengaged condition. The length of time the clutch is engaged can be a function of the vehicle road speed.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1987Date of Patent: June 26, 1990Assignee: Dana CorporationInventor: Bradley T.
