  • Patent number: 11106059
Abstract: A system and method providing correlated color temperature-tunable (CCT-tunable) white light using a laser diode(s) in conjunction with a III-Nitride nanowires-based LED element grown on a semi-transparent substrate. The tunability spans across yellow, amber, and red wavelengths and can be implemented by current injection. The current-dependent broad wavelength tunability enables control of wide range of CCT values (intensity, peak wavelength, and spectral coverage). The broad coverage in the yellow-amber-red color regime mimics that of a passive yellow phosphor, while the injection of current into the LED element defines an active phosphor element. The semi-transparent active phosphor element allows direct transmission of light from a laser diode(s) for achieving extreme wide tunability of CCT.

  • Patent number: 11079667
Abstract: A step difference exists at a boundary between lens cells in a first direction of a fly-eye lens, whereas a step difference does not exist at a boundary between lens cells in a second direction. Central light transmitted though a central portion of the lens cell in the first direction is incident on a polarized light separation surface of a polarized light conversion element, and the polarized light separation surface reflects a first polarized light included in the central light and transmits a second polarized light. A reflection surface reflects the reflected first polarized light and causes the polarized light conversion element to emit the reflected first polarized light, and a ½ wavelength plate converts the second polarized light transmitted through the polarized light separation surface into the first polarized light and causes the polarized light conversion element to emit the converted first polarized light.

  • Patent number: 11054700
Abstract: To provide a backlight that reduces the number of LEDs used while facilitating the attempt to make the backlight smaller in thickness. On amount substrate (11), LEDs (13) are mounted in a square lattice arrangement. Over a portion near the center of each unit of the square lattice, protrusions (15) of a diffusion plate (14) are disposed. Among light emitted from the LEDs (13), light traveling in lateral directions between the mount substrate (11) and the diffusion plate (14) is captured by the protrusions (15). The captured light is refracted and reflected by the interfaces of the protrusions (15), and diffused due to diffusing particles, with the result that the light is turned into upward illumination light.
