Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to medical devices, and more specifically to ablation catheters including bond joints formed to have improved strength and resistance to failure during use. In many embodiments an expanded bond-joint length and area and gap filling are used to increase the strength of the bond joint while decreasing relative variability. The bond joint length area is increased in a controlled manner so as to increase the overall strength of the bond joint by shifting the failure mode from the bond joint to a stronger area of the ablation catheter, such as the catheter shaft. Related methods of manufacturing such ablation catheters (or other medical devices including a bond joint) are also disclosed and described herein.

Abstract: A delivery sheath includes an outer tubular layer and an initially folded inner tubular layer. When an implant passes therethrough, the outer tubular layer expands and the inner tubular layer unfolds into an expanded lumen diameter. The sheath may also include selectively placed longitudinal support rods that mediate friction between the inner and outer tubular layers to facilitate easy expansion, thereby reducing the push force needed to advance the implant through the sheath's lumen.

Abstract: A carpet waste composite and method for making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the method, unadulterated layers of carpet having a backing side and a tufted side are provided. An initial unfused carpet layer is made by placing two cleaned, unadulterated layers of carpet tufted side-to-tufted side with homogenous and non-adhesive, non-binding contact therebetween. Heat and pressure followed by cooling are applied to furnish an initial fused carpet layer. An iterative unfused carpet layer is created by placing two cleaned, unadulterated layers of carpet tufted side-to-tufted side with the initial fused carpet layer interposed therebetween using non-adhesive, non-binding contact. Heat and pressure followed by cooling are applied to furnish an iterative fused carpet layer. The process of adding layers may continue as required.
Abstract: A method of coupling a catheter tunneler adapter to a catheter is provided. The method includes providing a catheter having a lumen divider at a proximal end thereof; forming a receiving notch in the lumen divider by removing a center portion thereof such that two divider side portions remain; providing a catheter tunneler adapter having a distal end including a radially inward step which defines a contact surface configured to be received in the proximal end of the catheter; positioning the distal end of the catheter tunneler adapter within the catheter until the radially inward step engages the receiving notch; and securing the catheter tunneler adapter to the catheter.
Abstract: Methods and devices for preventing fluid flow through the relatively short guidewire lumen of a rapid exchange catheter. The guidewire lumen for a rapid exchange catheter is provided with a narrowed or sealed section allowing for passage of a guidewire therethrough while preventing fluid flow while a guidewire is disposed therethrough. The narrowed or sealed section extends for a relatively short length of the guidewire lumen to avoid creating excessive friction between the guidewire and the guidewire lumen. In several embodiments the narrowed or sealed section is placed proximal of the distal end of the guidewire lumen.
Abstract: There is provided a method for producing a permanent magnet magnetic circuit that makes it possible to stably attach a permanent magnet to a yoke and to use a general-purpose assembly jig or to reuse an existing assembly jig even when the size or shape of a magnet to be attached is changed. More specifically, there is provided a method for producing the circuit comprising a magnet or magnet unit and a yoke, the method comprising the steps of: fixing the magnet or magnet unit to an assembly jig through an electrically detachable adhesive; fixing the magnet or magnet unit fixed to the jig, to the yoke; and applying a voltage between the magnet or magnet unit and the assembly jig to detach the adhesive from the magnet or magnet unit to detach the adhesive from the jig so as to detach the magnet from the jig.
