  • Patent number: 7515568
Abstract: A method of communicating in and around a localized wireless coverage area according to the present invention provides cellular coverage to a neighborhood cell (18) in which service might otherwise not be possible or in which a high percentage of calls would otherwise end up being dropped. Specifically, a neighborhood cell (18) is defined by either one or more fixed last hop nodes (20) or mobile last hop nodes (120). If a source mobile subscriber unit (12) communicates with a destination unit through wide area wireless network coverage, the source mobile subscriber unit (12) is handed over to ad hoc wireless network coverage either automatically or upon the occurrence of a high frame error rate when it enters the neighborhood cell (18) to maintain communication with the destination unit.

  • Patent number: 7512136
Abstract: An Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) request is received at a gateway coupled to a first local network from a first host also coupled to the first local network. The ARP request includes a destination IP address of a second host coupled to a second local network. Also, a source IP address of the first host and the destination IP address are within the same IP address sub-network. A local network address of the gateway is then sent to the first host in reply to the ARP request, based on an entry for the destination IP address in an ARP proxy table stored on the gateway. A packet is subsequently acquired from the first host addressed to the second host. The packet's header includes the source IP address and the destination IP address. Finally the packet is transmitted toward the second host.

  • Patent number: 7436838
Abstract: A technique configures an intermediate network node to automatically determine whether a route advertised by a routing protocol is important for fast convergence in a computer network. As used herein, an important route needed for fast convergence is a route advertised by the routing protocol, such as an exterior gateway routing protocol, as a next-hop address, since external connectivity relies on such a route. A routing information base process executing on the node stores the advertised route and, notably, interacts with an interior gateway routing protocol (IGP) process executing on the node to identify the route as an important route. Identification of an important route, in turn, allows IGP to process the route in a high priority fashion, thereby facilitating fast convergence.

  • Patent number: 7423958
Abstract: A transmitter for sending signals over wireless channels and a method of sending signals over wireless channels are described. The transmitter and the method are used to determine a transfer characteristic of an amplifier (8) in the transmitter. Symbols in the OFDM signals to be transmitted are multiplied by test signals at predefined points in time to compare the OFDM symbol, which has been multiplied by the test signal, upstream and downstream from the amplifier to determine the transfer characteristic of the amplifier (8). This transfer characteristic of the amplifier (8) is used by a predistorter (4) to predistort the signals according to this transfer characteristic. The test signal, which is generated by a signal generator (13), is input into a symbol of the fast information channel, the test signal having an amplitude which drives the multiplied symbol into the saturation range of the amplifier (8) with regard to its amplitude.

  • Patent number: 7418002
Abstract: A method and apparatus for buffering data units in a communication switch that allows for configurable monitoring of the buffer contents is presented. Such an apparatus includes a context table that stores a plurality of independent group identifiers for each connection. Although the group identifiers may include a partition group identifier and a loss group identifier that is dependent on the partition group identifier, additional group identifiers are included in the context table for each connection that are independent of other group identifiers in the context table. Such a context table may be dynamically reconfigured in order to group connections for buffer monitoring operations related to congestion detection, traffic shaping, and data admission with respect to buffering. When a data unit is received corresponding to a particular connection, the context table is referenced to retrieve the set of group identifiers corresponding to that connection.

  • Patent number: 7412538
Abstract: A request event manager for a network of consumer electronic devices. In one embodiment, the request event manager maintains a database of home network services, and allows the home network services to be scheduled for execution over time. Home network services herein refer to high-level abstractions of a consumer electronic device's functionalities, and also content that is available from the consumer electronic device. The request event manager of the present invention also creates and maintains a service request list (SRL) which details the service actions in a hierarchical fashion. By maintaining a database of home network services, the request event manager of the present invention allows user applications to specify and schedule concatenated or hierarchical events such that different network activity across interconnected heterogeneous consumer electronic devices can be synchronized without requiring complicated logic to be implemented.

  • Patent number: 7379476
Abstract: In the mobile radio communication system where the UMTS and an another system coexist an idle slot for observing the frequency component of another system is inserted in one superframe of UMTS. The duration of this idle slot is at most half of the duration of one frame that form the superframe and it is inserted at an interval of a specified number of frames. Therefore, the frequency component of the another system can be observed securely from the UMTS. Further, the deterioration of interleaving performance of the compressed mode frames during such observation can be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 7349330
Abstract: A packet receiver includes a packet memory circuit for temporarily storing received packets in a FIFO (First-In First-Out) fashion in the form of a queue. A read start threshold setting circuit sets, with respect to the length of the queue, a read start threshold at which the received packets should begin to be read out. A read comparing circuit determines whether or not the length of the queue has reached the read start threshold, and outputs a read command signal in accordance with the result of decision. In response to the read command signal, a read control circuit causes the received packets to be read out of the packet memory circuit. The packet receiver reduces the influence of the jitter of a communication network on speech quality. Also, the packet receiver reduces the influence of delays of packets by executing discard processing with the queue.
