  • Patent number: 9963635
Abstract: A blue phase liquid crystal display device and a method for driving the same are disclosed. In the display device, there is a pixel electrode or a common electrode arranged right opposite to each of the viewing angle switching electrodes. In a narrow viewing angle mode, a vertical electric field can be generated between two electrodes that are arranged right opposite to each other, so that liquid crystal molecules in the vertical electric field can be in a vertical alignment state. According to the present disclosure, since almost all oblique light can pass through the liquid crystal molecules in the vertical alignment state, the probability that the viewing angle switching dead area occurs can be reduced to a large extent.

  • Patent number: 9864205
Abstract: A multifocal display for rendering a 3D scene as a series of 2D images. In one aspect, the multifocal display includes a display, an optical imaging system, a refractive focus actuator and a controller. The display renders the 2D images. The optical imaging system is image-side telecentric and creates an image of the display. The refractive focus actuator is positioned at the pupil of the optical imaging system. Thus, adjusting the refractive focus actuator alters a location of the image of the display but does not significantly alter a size of the image. The controller coordinates adjustment of the refractive focus actuator with rendering of the 2D images on the display. The waveform driving the focus actuator is preferably designed to reduce ringing and jitter effects.

Abstract: Feedback via an input device associated with an interaction with a point of interest (POI) and scribble recognition is provided. When using an input device to navigate a GUI, various POIs may be determined as elements beneficial for a user to notice, pay attention to, or avoid. When an input is received that may be associated with a POI, feedback may be provided. Feedback may include haptic, visual, or audible feedback. Scribble recognition may also be provided. When using an input device (e.g., digital pen), a user may “scribble” in a margin to test pen attributes. Upon recognizing a scribble, alternative pen attributes may be presented in a contextual menu. In addition, the scribble may be automatically erased upon selection of a pen attribute or upon receiving input in another area of the UI or alternatively, feedback may be provided prior to erasure of the scribble input.

  • Patent number: 9785215
Abstract: Described herein are power conservation techniques that reduce power consumption for an electronics device including a display. The techniques divide video information for display into white and non-white video information. The white video information is altered such that the alteration decreases the amount of power required to display the white video information. The altered white video information and non-white video information are then visually output together. White-based power conservation as described herein may be performed while a person uses the electronics device, which reduces power consumption continually during usage.
