Patent number: 9130905Abstract: Techniques for content review with proxy comment management are presented. Comments associated with content review are managed separately from the content itself. Some comments are associated with participants internal to a secure network where the comments are managed while other comments are originally received from external participants located outside the secure network. The external comments are adopted by one or more of the internal participants that act as proxies for the external participants and their supplied comments. The proxy relationship permits the external comments to be added to the comments for the content review within the secure network.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2006Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: ADOBE SYSTEMS INCORPORATEDInventors: Randy L. Patent number: 9131117Abstract: A method provides for the optimal location of servers and the optimal assignment of programs to the servers in a video-on-demand (VOD) network with a tree topology. Each node may have demands for multiple VOD programs. The central server at the root of the network stores all programs, and each of the other servers may store some of these programs. The cost considered include cost of servers, cost of assigning programs to servers, and cost of link bandwidths used for broadcasting programs from servers to demands at various nodes. The demand for a specific program is served by the closest server that has this program along the path that connects the requesting node to the root of the tree network. The invention consists of a dynamic programming method that determines optimal server locations and optimal program assignments for minimizing the costs.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2006Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: Telcordia Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Hanan Luss

Patent number: 8849989Abstract: A method performed in a network element coupled between a subscriber end station and a multicast source for tracking a history of IGMP report messages. The network element receives and IGMP report message from the subscriber end station and determines a multicast group address and multicast source IP address corresponding to a multicast group to which the network element is a member. The network element builds an IGMP report history record indicating the subscriber end station's identity and comprises the multicast group address, the multicast source IP address, and a time stamp corresponding to the date and time at which the network element received the IGMP report message. This record is then stored in an IGMP report history database along with a plurality of other IGMP report history records so that the network element can maintain a history of IGMP report messages received from the subscriber end station.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2010Date of Patent: September 30, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Kunal R. Patent number: 8755441Abstract: Image data for frames of a moving image is transmitted from a first computer to a second computer. A region of interest for all of the frames in the moving image is identified by calculations using the image data for at least some of the frames. Coordinates for the region of interest are transmitted. Image data for a first frame and second frame for the region of interest is encoded and transmitted. A region surrounding the region of interest is identified. Coordinates for the region surrounding the region of interest are transmitted. Image data for the first frame for the region surrounding the region of interest is encoded and transmitted, wherein transmission of the encoded image data for the first frame for the region surrounding the region of interest is effected after transmission of encoded image data for both of the first and second frames for the region of interest.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2010Date of Patent: June 17, 2014Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Uddipan Mukherjee, Don Hideyasu Matsubayashi

Patent number: 8713199Abstract: A method for filtering and storing information about content which is available on a network device of many network devices in a network includes filtering the information by removing information about content which cannot be rendered by at least one of the network devices adapted for rendering content, storing the filtered information and making it available on the network. When the network is a UPnP network, then control points have faster reaction times when they browse a content directory that includes the stored filtered information. For reducing load on the content directory service, the control point and the network is obtained when the control point browses the content directories. Further, the content presented to the user on the user screen of a control point only comprises content which can be used.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2004Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Koninklijke Philips N.V.Inventors: Wilhelmus Josephus Herman Jan Bronnenberg, Maarten Peter Bodlaender

Patent number: 8417833Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus are directed towards selectively compressing data for transmission over a network. In one embodiment, a sending network device and receiving network device negotiates different compression modes to communicate data between them. An initial compression mode may be selected based on a network bandwidth. The sending network device then reads data, and compresses using the selected compression mode. The compressed data may then be written out. Ratios of compression and the write times are then employed to selectively adjust the compression mode for subsequent data compressions. In one embodiment, a compression ratio is also employed to determine whether to employ the selected compression mode, or to reduce the level of compression by using a different compression mode. The receiving network device having received information about the selected compression mode, then employs that compression mode to decompress the received data.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2006Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: F5 Networks, Inc.Inventor: Saxon Carl Amdahl
