  • Patent number: 6038226
Abstract: A combined signalling and PCM cross-connect and packet assembly/disassembly engine includes a cross-connect memory, wherein the memory advantageously includes both a subscriber PCM channel memory that cross-connects bus side PCM channels to optical fiber timeslots, and a separate signalling memory that cross-connects associated signalling data channels to optical fiber timeslots. In particular, the PCM and signalling data memories are substantially the same size and each signalling data channel is mapped to an address in the signalling memory that corresponds to the PCM memory address of the associated PCM channel. Cross-connect information used for the PCM channels is also used to cross-connect the associated signalling channels. Cross-connect and packet engine functions are combined, thereby eliminating the need for a separate buffer to accommodate differences in transmission rates between them.

  • Patent number: 5978376
Abstract: A plurality of end devices are coupled via a shared port to an asynchronous network in which traffic is carried in cells. A cell multiplexer is disposed between the devices and the port and is adapted to multiplex cells from the devices to the port in the order in which they are received by the multiplexer. The multiplexer broadcasts cells received from the network to all of the devices. Each said device is allocated a respective VCI so that it can identify its own cells from the broadcast cells.

  • Patent number: 5956339
Abstract: An apparatus for selecting a route in a packet-switched network where a plurality of candidate routes are available between a sending node and a receiving node. Total capacity calculation unit disposed in the sending node calculates the total channel capacity of each candidate route by summing up channel capacities of the inter-node links between the sending node and the receiving node. First selection unit chooses the candidate route(s) that exhibit the largest value of the total channel capacity. Uniformity calculation unit is activated when the first selection unit selected a plurality of candidate routes. The uniformity calculation unit calculates uniformity of each candidate route by evaluating the channel capacities of the inter-node links. The second selection unit chooses one of the candidate routes based on the calculated uniformity. This route will be used in packet transmission from the sending node to the receiving node.

  • Patent number: 5946292
Abstract: A digital receiver uses a local oscillator to down-convert an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed signal that has been modulated by differential phase-shift keying, and performs further processing to obtain a differentially demodulated array of phase values. According to a first aspect of the invention, the digital receiver detects a carrier offset, applies a corresponding phase correction to the values in the array, then shifts the entire array by an amount corresponding to the carrier offset. As a result, the local oscillator need be tuned only in a frequency range equal to the subcarrier spacing. According to a second aspect of the invention, the local oscillator is tuned within a range equal to the subcarrier spacing multiplied by a certain integer, the array is shifted by a multiple of this integer, and the phase correction is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5943345
Abstract: An AM multiplexing broadcast apparatus multiplexes a digital modulated signal independent of an AM modulated signal, in the same frequency band as the AM modulated signal. A sum signal is amplified by a first amplifier. An inverse of the sum signal is obtained by an inverse calculator. A divider divides this inverse signal by a magnification factor of the first amplifier. An output of the divider and a digital modulated signal in the same frequency band as an AM modulated signal are multiplied by a first multiplier. A carrier generated by a carrier generator is phase-modulated by a phase modulator. Outputs of the phase modulator and first multiplier are synthesized and thereafter amplified by a second amplifier. Outputs of the first and second amplifiers are multiplied by a second multiplier and transmitted from an antenna.

  • Patent number: 5933424
Abstract: In a transmitter in a CDMA system, a plurality of pilot signals which are identical with each other are sent in a base band region from a plurality of pilot signal generators to be supplied to a plurality of multipliers which are given signal ratios from a monitor/control unit and to be combined together through the multipliers. The signal ratios are varied by the monitor/control unit so that an amplitude of the combined pilot signal is kept constant even when one or more pilot signal generators are faulty.

  • Patent number: 5933421
Abstract: The high quality PCS communications are enabled in environments where adjacent PCS service bands operate with out-of-band harmonics that would otherwise interfere with the system's operation. The highly bandwidth-efficient communications method combines a form of time division duplex (TDD), frequency division duplex (FDD), time division multiple access (TDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), spatial diversity, and polarization diversity in various unique combinations. The method provides excellent fade resistance. The method enables changing a user's available bandwidth on demand by assigning additional TDMA slots during the user's session.

  • Patent number: 5907557
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for exchanging information frames over a network between circuits having transmission channels of unified addresses and/or reception channels associated with addresses of transmission channels. It includes the steps of periodically transmitting from a master circuit addresses of transmission channels; receiving each address by each circuit and, when the address corresponds to a transmission channel of the circuit, transmitting the information frame contained in the transmission channel after receiving the next address; receiving each information frame by each circuit and, when the address previously received by the circuit is associated with a reception channel of the circuit, providing the received frame to this reception channel after receiving the next address; and retransmitting from each circuit each first address received and each first information frame received.

  • Patent number: 5898682
Abstract: A radio channel control section 370 transmits and receives to and from an adjacent base station uplink/downlink channel communication qualities measured by a communication channel transmit/receive section 330 and a mobile station 410, respectively, compares them with predetermined lower and upper threshold values Tl/Th, requests a pilot channel transmit section 350 to decrease and increase the transmission power level of a pilot signal if the threshold value Tl is not reached and the threshold value Th is exceeded, respectively. For a downlink channel, a hand-off parameter is increased and decreased if the threshold value Tl is not reached and the threshold value Th is exceeded, respectively. For an uplink channel, the hand-off parameter is decreased and increased if the threshold value Tl is not reached and the threshold value Th is exceeded, respectively.
