  • Patent number: 11759590
Abstract: In a respiratory apparatus for treatment of sleep apnea and other disorders associated with an obstruction of a patient's airway and which uses an airflow signal, an obstruction index is generated which detects the flattening of the inspiratory portion of the airflow. The flattening index serves as an obstruction index used to differentiate normal and obstructed breathing. The obstruction index is based upon comparison of values of airflow in different sectors of the inspiratory peak of the wave function and is particularly suitable for distinguishing M shaped or square shaped respiratory patters patterns indicative of partially obstructed airways.

  • Patent number: 11730905
Abstract: A respiratory apparatus evaluates accuracy of a pressure sensor, such as when only a single pressure sensor is provided. The accuracy of the pressure sensor may be assessed based on pressure measurement obtained from the pressure sensor and a subordinate or secondary characteristic of the respiratory device such as altitude or atmospheric pressure. A controller or processor may calculate the altitude of the respiratory device based in part on the pressure measurement. In some embodiments, the assessment of the pressure sensor may involve an evaluation of the calculated altitude. In some cases, the assessment of the pressure sensor may involve determining an estimated pressure based on a calculated altitude, and comparing the pressure measurement obtained from the pressure sensor with the estimated pressure.

  • Patent number: 11730911
Abstract: A control system controls fresh gas dispensing for an anesthesia device, with a patient gas-measuring unit, an anesthetic-dispensing unit, a user interface, and a fresh gas regulation unit. With a transition from deactivated assistance mode to activated assistance mode, a processing unit receives a measured signal, a fresh gas signal and an assistance signal and calculates an end tidal anesthetic concentration over time based on a current volume flow, a predefined volume flow and on a current end tidal anesthetic concentration and stores this as a preset curve. A fresh gas correction signal is output upon the determined current end tidal anesthetic concentration leaving a surrounding range of the preset curve. A predefined volume flow curve is changed as a function of the correction signal. The volume flow of fed fresh gas is increased when the surrounding range is undershot and is reduced when the surrounding range is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 11717637
Abstract: A breathable gas inlet control device permits flow regulation at the inlet of a flow generator for a respiratory treatment apparatus such as a ventilator or continuous positive airway pressure device. The device may implement a variable inlet aperture size based on flow conditions. In one embodiment, an inlet flow seal opens or closes the inlet to a blower in accordance with changes in pressure within a seal activation chamber near the seal. The seal may be formed by a flexible membrane. A controller selectively changes the pressure of the seal activation chamber by controlling a set of one or more flow control valves to selectively stop forward flow, prevent back flow or lock open the seal to permit either back flow or forward flow. The controller may set the flow control valves as a function of detected respiratory conditions based on data from pressure and/or flow sensors.
