Abstract: The invention relates to a system and a method for determining a characteristic of a blood vessel portion, which comprises blood including a contrast agent exhibiting resonant absorption of x-ray photons at a specific energy. The system comprises a tunable monochromatic x-ray source (21) emitting x-ray radiation, an x-ray detector device (22) for detecting the x-ray radiation after it has travelled through the blood vessel portion. A control unit (26) varies a tuning of the x-ray source (21) to vary the energy of the x-ray radiation emitted by the x-ray source (21), and an evaluation unit (27) determines a tuning of the x-ray source (21) at which nuclear resonant absorption of the x-ray radiation incident onto the blood vessel portion occurs and estimates the characteristic on the basis of the determined tuning. The characteristic may particularly be the blood velocity in the blood vessel portion.

Abstract: Volume data is generated by performing a CT scan with a spherical calibration jig having known dimensions in contact with an object. A profile of the surface shape of the object in the volume data is obtained, and a boundary surface of the spherical calibration jig is calculated from the center coordinates of the spherical calibration jig. A correction value for adjusting a boundary surface of the object determined from the gradient of the profile to the boundary surface of the spherical calibration jig is determined, and the boundary surface of the object is corrected by using the correction value. The shape of the object is determined by using the corrected boundary surface. The precision of measurement X-ray CT can thus be increased by accurately detecting the boundary surface of the object.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an X-ray computed tomography apparatus includes an X-ray tube, a photon counting detector, and processing circuitry. The X-ray tube radiates X-rays. The photon counting detector detects the X-rays radiated from the X-ray tube and transmitted through a subject. The processing circuitry adjusts a temperature adjustment amount used for regulating a temperature of the photon counting detector according to an imaging mode.
Abstract: A radiation therapy system comprising a therapeutic radiation system (e.g., an MV X-ray source, and/or a linac) and a co-planar imaging system (e.g., a kV X-ray system) on a fast rotating ring gantry frame. The therapeutic radiation system and the imaging system are separated by a gantry angle, and the gantry frame may rotate in a direction such that the imaging system leads the MV system. The radiation sources of both the therapeutic and imaging radiation systems are each collimated by a dynamic multi-leaf collimator (DMLC) disposed in the beam path of the MV X-ray source and the kV X-ray source, respectively. In one variation, the imaging system identifies patient tumor(s) positions in real-time. The DMLC for the imaging radiation source limits the kV X-ray beam spread to the tumor(s) and/or immediate tumor regions, and helps to reduce irradiation of healthy tissue (e.g., reduce the dose-area product).
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the evaluation of tissue gadolinium deposition that offers advantages compared with known methods. Comparison of different gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) based on retention, organ distribution, washout and safety is facilitated using the methods of the present invention.

Abstract: A processor acquires first-direction and second-direction radiographic images captured by emitting radiation in different directions. The processor derives a bone mineral content for each pixel in the bone portion included in the first-direction and second-direction radiographic images. The processor divides the bone portion included in the first-direction and second-direction radiographic images into a plurality of small regions and derives first and second evaluation results for each small region of the bone portion on the basis of the derived bone mineral content.
Abstract: In described examples, a charge sensitive amplifier (CSA) generates an integrated signal in response to a current signal. A high pass filter is coupled to the CSA and receives the integrated signal and an inverse of an event signal, the high pass filter generates a coarse signal. An active comparator is coupled to the high pass filter and receives the coarse signal and a primary reference voltage signal, the active comparator generates the event signal.

Abstract: Systems and methods for breast x-ray tomosynthesis that enhance spatial resolution in the direction in which the breast is flattened for examination. In addition to x-ray data acquisition of 2D projection tomosynthesis images ETp1 over a shorter source trajectory similar to known breast tomosynthesis, supplemental 2D images ETp2 are taken over a longer source trajectory and the two sets of projection images are processed into breast slice images ETr that exhibit enhanced spatial resolution, including in the thickness direction of the breast. Additional features include breast CT of an upright patient's flattened breast, multi-mode tomosynthesis, and shielding the patient from moving equipment.
