  • Patent number: 6563638
Abstract: A collimating optical device utilizes a reflective beamsplitter in the form of a linear polarizing beamsplitter to achieve a wide field of view. One form of the wide-angle collimating optical device includes, in order from an image source, a first absorptive linear polarizer; a first quarter-wave plate; an optical doublet including a piano-concave singlet, a plano-convex singlet whose convex surface has the same curvature as the curvature of the concave surface, and a first reflective beamsplitter joining the concave surface of the plano-concave singlet to the convex surface of the plano-convex singlet; a second quarter-wave plate; and a second reflective beamsplitter. One of the reflective beamsplitters is a linear polarizing beamsplitter, most preferably a wire grid polarizer.

  • Patent number: 5909326
Abstract: An exterior rearview mirror for motor vehicles has a mirror arm and a mirror housing connected to the mirror arm so as to foldable about a pivot axis relative to the mirror arm. A support plate is mounted in the mirror housing. A mirror pane is attached to the support plate so as to face outwardly relative to the mirror housing. An adjusting device for adjusting a position of the mirror pane from the interior of the motor vehicle is provided. The adjusting device includes a first adjusting member accessible from the interior of the motor vehicle. The adjusting device includes a second adjusting member mounted within the housing. The first and second adjusting members are connected to one another so as to be pivotable about a common axis. The common axis coincides substantially with the pivot axis of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5894365
Abstract: A viewer having a collapsed condition and a viewing condition. The viewer includes a front and rear wall formed of a flexible material and joined together at their top and bottom edges. The front wall includes a pair of images disposed on the interior surface of the front wall, while the exterior surface includes a reflection print. The rear wall includes a pair of viewing apertures having lenses in optical registration with the pair of images. A middle wall is disposed intermediate the front and rear walls and is joined together with the rear wall at their bottom edges. The middle wall includes at least one aperture in optical registration with the pair of images. The front and rear walls move between the viewing condition wherein the front and rear walls flex to define convex curves and the pair of images are viewable through the pair of viewing apertures, and the collapsed condition wherein the interior surfaces of the front and rear walls abut the middle wall.
