  • Patent number: 4723529
Abstract: An oil sparator for a blowby gas ventilation system of an internal combustion engine which includes a cylinder head cover, a baffle plate, a blowby gas path formed between the cylinder head cover and the baffle plate, and a filter provided in the blowby gas path. A groove is formed in the baffle plate and extends along the filter over the entire width of a top wall of the baffle plate. The filtered oil collects in the groove and does not appear on the upper surface of the top wall of the baffle plate. Therefore, the collected oil in the groove does not flow through the filter together with the blowby gas. As a result, oil consumption is decreased and oil blow-out through a blowby gas outlet is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4721080
Abstract: In a combustion chamber structure in a direct injection type diesel engine, in order to prevent flames from flowing out to a quench zone Q from a combustion chamber (32) which opens to a top part (30a) of a piston (30) to thereby prevent cooling of the flames and also in order to prevent a fuel spray from being concentrated on a lower portion of the combustion chamber (32), the fuel spray should be reflected in the combustion chamber (32) effectively according to displacement of the piston (30) to allow it to be mixed with air sufficiently in the combustion chamber (32) or in a cylinder (28), and to this end there are provided a guide wall (34) which becomes larger in inside diameter downwardly from an opening edge portion (33) of the combustion chamber (32), as well as fuel reflection walls (36, 38) which project below the guide wall (34) toward a central axis (lo) of the combustion chamber (32) and divide the combustion chamber vertically into a first combustion chamber (44) and a second combustion chamber

  • Patent number: 4719879
Abstract: An intake manifold for multicylinder, in-line type engine wherein a distribution chamber extends along the engine and a separate intake pipe extends from the distribution chamber to each intake port for each engine cylinder. When the engine has an oval intake port, usually because of two intake valves, with the major axis extending the length of the engine, the intake pipes have matching oval openings. The connection between each intake pipe and the distribution chamber is oval in shape but oriented with the major axis extending laterally to reduce the length of the distribution chamber. The walls of the manifold vary in thickness for reducing weight and the moment of inertia by progressively decreasing the wall thickness in the direction away from the engine.

  • Patent number: 4718379
Abstract: A retrofit roller bearing pivot assembly for a rocker arm of an internal combustion engine valve gear. A mounting stud or post threaded on one end for attachment to the engine has a fulcrum member received thereover and registered against a head formed thereon with transversely extending oppositely disposed cylindrical bearing surfaces. A roller bearing race is received on each of the bearing surfaces and a semi-cylindrical sleeve member has the post received therethrough and has concave portions on opposite ends thereof journalled on the fulcrum bearing surfacers. The sleeve is retained against the bearings by a spring clip received over the end of the post and engaging ledges on the sleeve. The fulcrum is retained in registration on the post by a contoured supporting spacer held in place by a suitable snap ring received over the post threads. The assembly is sized to drop between the side wall of a cupped rocker arm.

  • Patent number: 4716875
Abstract: The safety plug device is adapted to releasably plug the fluid fuel line of an internal combustion engine. The device has an external multiple stepped cylindrical configuration and/or central cavity with a like configuration so that it can be used effectively with various diameters of fuel lines and can either be inserted in the central opening of the fuel line or can be disposed over the fuel line, to prevent loss of fuel after the fuel line is removed from, for example, a carburator. The device is preferably of resilient elastomeric material resistant to deterioration by fuel and can include metal inserts, or be all metal, ceramic, etc. Thus, danger of fire from spilled fuel such as gasoline, kerosene, oil and the like can be readily avoided by the use of the plug device. Moreover, because the plug device physically reinforces the fuel line, clamping of the fuel line at the plug device does not damage the fuel line, in contrast to conventional clamping which breaks down the fuel line.

  • Patent number: 4715336
Abstract: A four-stroke internal combustion piston engine includes at least two cylinders disposed in axial alignment opposite on another. Each cylinder has a piston axially reciprocal therein with the pistons in the two cylinders operating with a phase shift of 180.degree.. Each piston is connected by a piston rod to the same crankshaft located between the cylinders. Each piston moves between a bottom dead center at an inner end of the cylinder adjacent the crankshaft to a top dead center at an outer end of the cylinder spaced outwardly from the crankshaft. During movement of the piston from the inner end to the outer end, fresh air or a fuel-air mixture is drawn into the cylinder through a suction system and when the piston moves in the opposite direction a transfer system conveys the fresh air or fuel-air mixture into a combustion space formed between the outer end of the cylinder and the piston.
