  • Patent number: 6503221
Abstract: A peristaltic pump is provided with a housing, a pump head in the housing, and a receiving path defined along a housing and pump head for receiving tubing. Two spaced-apart temperature sensors are provided. One temperature sensor is located adjacent the tubing in a heat conduction path along which heat flows between the sensor and the tubing. The other sensor is located outside of the heat conduction path for sensing ambient temperature. The pump operating speed is adjusted as a function of the sensed temperatures. This accommodates the temperature-dependent rate of recovery of the tubing from its peristaltically deformed configuration to its original configuration.

  • Patent number: 6325782
Abstract: A medical valve has a body which includes a wall structure defining an internal cavity having an inside and an outside. The body also has a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end has an opening sufficiently large to receive a tip of a delivery end of a medical implement which transfers fluid through the delivery end. The body has a fluid escape space in its wall structure. The valve also has a spike with a tip and at least one hole located at or near the tip. The spike has a passageway in communication with the hole that allows fluid to flow through the spike. A resilient seal in the cavity surrounds the spike. This seal is adapted to be moved into a compressed state upon insertion of the tip of the medical implement into the opening. The seal is sufficiently resilient to return to a decompressed state upon removal of the tip of the medical implement from the opening. The fluid escape space is in fluid communication with the outside of the cavity when the seal is in its compressed state.

  • Patent number: 6228067
Abstract: An injection device has a housing (112,116) wherein there is a longitudinally movable expressing member (186) for expressing an injection fluid from a fluid container (118). In order to displace the expressing member (186) longitudinally within the housing, an actuating member (170, 172) is associated therewith. The actuating member is displaceable between a proximal end position and a distal end position. Between the actuating member (170, 172) and the expressing member (186), a position-dependent connecting device (166″, 167″, 198, 210, 212) is provided, which is disabled in the distal end position of the actuating member (170, 172) and is enabled in a position range adjacent to the distal end position of the actuating member (170, 172) including its proximal end position. One thus obtains an injection device which is simple to operate, and which is especially adapted to permit a patient to repeatedly administer the same constant injection dose.
