  • Patent number: 4806053
Abstract: An expansion dowel assembly includes an axially elongated anchor bolt and a pair of serially arranged expansion elements or shells into which the anchor bolt is drawn. The anchor bolt has axially extending conically shaped expansion members spaced apart in the axial direction and each is arranged to be drawn into a different one of the expansion elements. The expansion member closer to the leading end of the anchor bolt has a larger cone angle than the other expansion member. The expansion elements are interconnected by a web so that the expansion elements are axially displaceable relative to one another. When the anchor bolt with its expansion members is drawn into the expansion elements, initially the trailing expansion element is widened or expanded. Subsequently, after a predetermined axial movement of the leading expansion element toward the trailing expansion element, the widening of the leading expansion element is commenced.

  • Patent number: 4797022
Abstract: An improved fastener provides axially extending teeth on a narrow shoulder adjacent the fastener head. The teeth bite into sheet material, and are particularly useful in biting into the surface of a thin sheet which is fastened to a thicker sheet material. The teeth extend from a shoulder formed on a medial collar between the head and a threaded shank. The narrow shoulder has a larger diameter than the end of the threaded shank to which the shoulder is joined. The teeth can be formed by cold-flow of the material of the shoulder so that the teeth axially extend from the outer peripheral edge of the shoulder in order to bite into the thin sheet metal proximate the annular periphery of the aperture in which the threaded shank is engaged. Preferably, the teeth axially overlap the threading of the shank which extends entirely to its junction with the shoulder, and the teeth are fabricated after the shank thread in order to enable such overlap by the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4793641
Abstract: Briefly, the seal of the present invention comprises a stud with resilient fingers that fit into a socket that contains shoulders so that when the stud is moved past the shoulders, the resilient fingers collapse and then spring out to engage the shoulders and prevent return movement. A pilot projection guides the resilient fingers into the socket and ensures their correct position relative to the shoulders both during insertion and attempted removal. The exteriors of the socket and the stud are to substantially fill apertures in the articles to be sealed. Once the socket and stud are positioned in the apertures, they cannot be removed without breaking the seal. The socket is made with a second opening normal to the opening of insertion of the stud so that the seal can be manufactured inexpensively and easily in a one step molding operation.

  • Patent number: 4793643
Abstract: Disclosed is a mechanism for closing and locking two doors of the cowling of an aircraft engine. This mechanism includes a bolt which is received in a chamber of a receptacle. The bolt is connected to one door and the receptacle is connected to the other door so that, upon closure of the two doors, the bolt slips into the chamber. A cam attached to a rotary member housed within the chamber enables a single mechanic to close the doors and lock them snugly. This cam engages a finger on the bolt upon rotation of the rotary member which draws the bolt into the chamber by pulling against the finger. The cam moves into an over center position which securely locks the bolt in place without locking bolt travel. A locking device is additionally provided for locking the rotatable member in position when the bolt is locked in place. This locking device has a plunger which provides audible signals when the cam is in the fully opened position and when the mechanism is securely locked.

  • Patent number: 4790703
Abstract: A tri-lobular section of a bolt receives a mating tri-lobular bore of a washer to prevent the washer from rotating. Roll formed male threads on the tri-lobular section of the bolt receive a cooperating nut. The nut has a base shaped for wrench engagement, a thin walled barrel, a spring temper, and a threaded bore. The thread of the nut has two thread diameters: a large diameter thread in the base and a smaller diameter thread in the barrel continuing from the base thread; both thread sections have the same pitch. The barrel thread is substantially circular when relaxed. The barrel elastically flexes in response to the lobes of the nut as the lobes turn in the barrel, and when rotation stops, the barrel generally conforms to the tri-lobular shape of the bolt to form a thread lock, but the base does not.

  • Patent number: 4789284
Abstract: The present invention relates to expansison anchors for solid wall installation and is specifically concerned with providing a self cutting expansion anchor which can be installed in one continuous motion by utilizing combined cutting blades and wall gripping members which cut their own undercut portion within a wall bore into which the gripping members are then permanently further expanded in positive locking engagement. Such dual-stage installation is achieved by utilizing an anchor mounting assembly having a pair or opposite-hand screw-threaded portions thereon which separately mount a blade expanding thrust member and a camming ramp on which the blades are initially expanded by axial movement of the thrust member toward the ramp and in the second stage causing the ramp to axially move toward the thrust member in further expanding relation to the blades.
