  • Patent number: 11050597
Abstract: Transmission quality is improved in an environment in which direct waves dominate in a transmission method for transmitting a plurality of modulated signals from a plurality of antennas at the same time. All data symbols used in data transmission of a modulated signal are precoded by hopping between precoding matrices so that the precoding matrix used to precode each data symbol and the precoding matrices used to precode data symbols that are adjacent to the data symbol in the frequency domain and the time domain all differ. A modulated signal with such data symbols arranged therein is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 11043796
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed to detect cloud-to-ground (CG) strokes that include and/or are followed by continuing current (CC). For example, earth-based lightning data may be generated for one or more lightning pulses detected in an environmental space using multiple earth-based lightning detection sensors. Space-based lightning data may be received for one or more optical signals detected in the environmental space using one or more space-based lightning detection sensors. It may be determined from the earth-based and space-based lightning data whether a lightning pulse is a CG stroke that includes or is followed by CC. Charge transfer of a CG stroke with CC may be obtained from measurements of electromagnetic fields by an array of electromagnetic field sensors to generate training data. A machine learning model may be trained to relate space-based and/or earth-based lightning data to charge transfer where there is no proximate array of electromagnetic field sensors.

  • Patent number: 11038624
Abstract: A transmitting device may identify a set of bit locations of a polar code for encoding an input vector based at least in part on a reliability order of the bit locations, where the input vector includes a set of payload bits. The transmitting device may map bits of the input vector to respective bit locations of the identified set of bit locations and may apply a masking operation to a subset of bits of the input vector that is mapped to a most reliable subset of the set of bit locations. The transmitting device may perform an encoding operation according to the mapped input vector to generate a codeword for transmission. A receiving device may perform complementary operations to obtain the payload bits of the input vector. Based on the described techniques, a false alarm rate for the receiving device may be suppressed.

  • Patent number: 10944609
Abstract: Assigning an appropriate modulation profile for an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) channel. The current modulation profile assigned to a specific cable modem for communicating over a specific OFDM channel is examined to determine whether to consider reassigning the specific cable modem to a different modulation profile. Only upon determining consideration should be given, an assessment is made as to which modulation profile, of a set of candidate modulation profiles available to that cable modem for communicating over the specific OFDM channel, should be assigned to the specific cable modem using linear domain averaging over the OFDM subcarriers of the ratios between a Mean Error Rate (MER) threshold per subcarrier for the specific cable modem and the MER reported by the specific cable modem per subcarrier.
