The smoke detector includes a housing defining a chamber for receiving ambient materials, an emitter configured to emit light (ex. infrared light or any light in the visible spectrum, such as blue light) into the chamber, a receiver configured to receive light reflected from the ambient materials in the chamber and generate output signals, and a controller configured to receive output signals from the receiver and determine whether a current condition of the chamber indicates a need to trigger an alarm.
Abstract: A system controls assistive technologies with an assistive tool for users with movement and/or communication disorders. The system includes an electronic communication interface, a biometric sensor, a calibration module and a processing unit. The interface presents users with stimuli associated with commands and/or information that the user might select. The sensor detects the user's biometric activity and generates a biometric electrical signal. During initial calibration, the calibration module records signal characteristics associated with a biometric electrical signal detected with voluntary biometric activity. The processing unit recognizes, based on the biometric electrical signal and the signal characteristics, the user's voluntary biometric activity and commands and/or information the user wants to select. The processing unit provides control signals to the interface and the assistive tool, based on the user's selection preferences.

Abstract: A device, system and method for crowd control is provided. An aural command is detected at a location using a microphone at the location. A computing device determines, based on video data received from one or more multimedia devices, whether one or more persons at the location are not following the aural command. The computing device modifies the aural command to generate a second version of the aural command based on one or more of the video data and multimedia data associated with the location. The computing device causes the second version of the aural command to be provided, to the one or more persons who are not following the aural command at the location, using one or more notification devices.

Abstract: A smart delivery receptacle and related systems and techniques are disclosed. The disclosed receptacle may be configured to detect and securely report wirelessly on whether a package has been delivered thereto. Moreover, the disclosed receptacle may be configured to alert an owner or other authorized party if the receptacle has been compromised or a package has been removed without authorization. To such ends, the disclosed receptacle may include RF wireless communication device(s) configured to transmit RF signal(s) including data pertaining to various conditions to be monitored. Information from the RF signal(s) may be delivered through the internet to a server, which may be cloud-based in some instances, allowing for inter-networking of the system components and other elements as part of the internet of things (IOT). Mobile and other computing devices may access the information stored at the server to monitor the receptacle, as well as control overall system operation.
Abstract: A sensor and system for observing the presence, location, movement and/or attitude of one or more objects to be monitored includes a sensor detecting presence, location, movement and/or attitude. The sensor includes two detectors, which are adapted to measure in two measuring ranges that are at a different height, of which the measuring range of the first detector is a lower measuring range and the measuring range of the second detector is an upper measuring range. The sensor further includes a third detector, which is adapted to detect an item, such as a towel or clothing article, placed in front of and/or on top of the first detector, second detector and/or third detector.
Abstract: A method of directing individuals to an evacuation point during a fire including: determining a location of one or more fire detection device and one or more fire suppression devices within a building; detecting a fire using the one or more fire detection devices; determining a location of the fire in response to the location of the one or more fire detection devices; determining a safe evacuation route between an individual and an evacuation point in response to the location of the fire within the building; and directing an individual towards the evacuation point along the safe evacuation route.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new photoelectric smoke fire detection and alarming method, comprising: acquiring scattered light intensity data of at least two scattering angles of fire samples and interference source samples, and calculating sample parameters thereof to form a sample category table; and calculating sample parameters of detection data for comparison, and outputting a fire alarming signal when the comparison result is that the sample parameters are in line with the sample category table. According to the fire alarming method in the present invention, data collection, calculation and judgment are performed based on at least two modulated optical signals, so that the early-warning precision is improved.
Abstract: A system and method for localizing a movable object that includes a first transmitter and a second transmitter which are arranged at a geometric distance relative to one another, wherein the first transmitter and the second transmitter each transmit a first signal and a second signal, wherein the first and second signal are in temporal synchrony relative to one another and furthermore a receiver is provided, which receives the first signal via receiving device and determines a first direction, from which the first signal is received, and receives the second signal and determines a second direction, from which the second signal is received, and a runtime difference between the first signal and the second signal, and where the position of the movable object is determined from the runtime difference, the distance, the first direction and the second direction by an evaluator.
