  • Patent number: 5174758
Abstract: A color swatch arrangement for use in selecting colors for four-color offset printing, and a method for creating such an arrangement, involves dividing the visible spectrum into a plurality of distinct hues, and determining the proportions of yellow, red, and blue dot densities needed to create color swatches of each distinct hue. A series of lighter-and-lighter tint swatches associated with each distinct hue are created by reducing each of the yellow, red, and blue dot densities in steps. A series of darker shade swatches is created by adding a proportion of black dot density to each distinct hue and all the stepped lighter tints created from it, and a series of darker-and-darker shade swatches are produced by adding greater proportions of black dot density in stages to all the stepped lighter tints.

  • Patent number: 5158459
Abstract: An accessory apparatus for use with computerized airplane flight simulations providing full-size control for elevator, ailerons, rudder, and throttle. Apparatus is free-standing and includes a single compact partially collapsible frame which is anchored by the user's chair. Electronics are provided by user in the form of two conventional dual-axis analog computer joysticks which are removably installed in unmodified form in the accessory. Control stick, rudder pedals, and throttle arrangement mimics that of typical airplanes. Means are provided to adjust the trim position of the rudder, elevator, and (on the yoke configuration), the ailerons. Controls for elevator, rudder, and ailerons are spring-loaded to simulate control forces in an airplane and may be damped for additional realism.

  • Patent number: 5156622
Abstract: An apparatus and process for applying a synthetic lenticule to the cornea of a human eye is disclosed, the process also contemplating selective reprofiling of the lenticule while it is in place over the cornea. The process involves securing the lenticule over the cornea with an adhesive, thus leaving the visual axis of the eye undisturbed. The lenticule is placed over the cornea with a unique micromanipulation apparatus. A laser delivery system is used to reprofile the lenticule if necessary for refining the refractive power of the lenticule.

  • Patent number: 5151069
Abstract: A vertically extending structure comprises a component of playground equipment which is provided with one or more bars having free ends provided with internal threads and configured to penetrate wood, and one or more wooden support members for supporting the component. Each support member has at least one transverse opening extending therethrough. This transverse opening is axially aligned with and receives the free end of the bar, and includes three portions. One portion is inwardly-facing and is of a size and shape to matingly receive and envelop in a supporting fashion one of the free ends; a central portion has a transverse dimension less than that of the inwardly-facing portion; and a third portion is outwardly facing and has a greater transverse diameter than the central portion. The central portion receives the body a bolt, while the outwardly-facing portion receives the head of the bolt.

  • Patent number: 5151071
Abstract: An isoinertial lift machine is described which can be used to evaluate and train patients in the static and dynamic lift modes. The machine consists of an arm which can be positioned on a vertical column. At the end of the arm, various size attachments and handles can be attached. The arm also carries a force sensor that measures the forces applied to the handles. In the static mode, the arm is positioned at a desired height and locked in place. The patient lifts on the handle, and the force sensor registers the lifting force. Since the handle does not move during the lift, the mode is called static. In the dynamic mode, the arm/handle moves in the vertical direction during the lift. A resistance mechanism is used to resist the lifting force applied by the user at the handle. The resisting force is always pulling the arm down, both in the lifting and the lowering motion. The resisting force remains constant throughout the range of motion during lifting.

  • Patent number: 5147267
Abstract: A buttocks exerciser is formed of a one-piece housing having a generally planar upper surface and rectangular configuration. The exerciser further defines a concave undersurface and a triangular cross-section pivot support extending downwardly beneath the headrest portion. The pivot support terminates in a transversely extending pivot edge about which the exerciser pivots. A pair of fastening belts are secured to the lower portion of the exerciser and are movable for position adjustment. The user places his or her torso upon the exercise with head overlying the headrest and hips near the bottom edge. The user then fastens the attachment straps across the user's lap and hip portion and thereafter, with feet placed near the bottom edge, performs a wrestler's bridge-type exercise in which the exerciser pivots about the transverse pivot edge.

  • Patent number: 5135449
Abstract: A rowing exercise machine includes a frame, a seat and a chest brace supported by the frame, and a pair of levers pivotally connected to the frame in front of the brace and seat. Each of the levers has a lower end adapted to support at least one removable weight and a handle at an upper end adapted to be grasped by an exerciser supported on the seat. During the performance of a rowing exercise, the exerciser pulls the handles upwardly and rearwardly to pivot the levers against the weight resistances held by the lower ends. The levers move along two outer vertical planes that converge with respect to the forward direction of the seat, and each of the levers pivots independently with respect to the frame.

  • Patent number: 5133700
Abstract: A flexible sliding mat may be provided on a floor and used with an exerciser to simulate skating, snow skiing, etc. A user's feet slide from one end to the other end of a sliding surface member of the sliding mat and bear against transverse stop/kick-off edge elements at oppostie ends of the sliding surface member. The stop/kick-off edge elements are displaceable along sliding mat for adjustment of the length of the sliding surface member. Each edge element includes a pair of members including an upper member placed above the sliding mat and a lower member placed below the sliding mat. Each lower member has a flange which extends beyond the longitudinal side of the respective upper member. The upper and lower members are connected by screw bolts and nuts extending through aligned holes at each end of each pair of members.

  • Patent number: 5125878
Abstract: A hand exercising apparatus for strengthening the hand and forearm muscles and improving joint mobility while protecting the skin of a hand using the apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus includes an outer frame having an outer crossbar and an outer grip bar transversely mounted between two parallel rods. An inner frame is slidably mounted in the outer frame and has an inner crossbar and an inner grip bar parallel and adjacent to the outer crossbar and the outer grip bar. A coupling assembly connects the outer crossbar to the inner crossbar and provides a resisting force as the inner frame is moved along the outer frame. An altering device increases and decreases the distance over which the inner frame may be moved along the outer frame. An inner cushion sleeve is mounted on the inner grip bar, while an outer cushion sleeve having an area of reduced thickness for receiving the second crossbar is mounted on the outer grip bar.

  • Patent number: 5125649
Abstract: The present invention is an exercise machine comprising a booster bar to which is attached a pair of flexible elastic shock cords which have their other ends attached to fixed structural members. The user exercises his arms or his legs by repeatedly pushing against the booster bar, thus stretching and unstretching the shock cords. The unstretched length of the shock cords is adjusted by rotating the booster bar about its axis, thus winding or unwinding, the shock cords around the booster bar. This, in turn, adjusts the force required to stretch the shock cords to a given dimension. The fixed structural member may be a part of a foot-stand or a cot-like backrest.

  • Patent number: 5118099
Abstract: The disclosure pertains to an articulated playground bridge including a frame, and a deck having opposite sides and opposite ends. The deck is attached at its opposite ends to the frame such that the deck is suspended above the ground by the frame with the deck sagging downwardly between its opposite ends. The deck is made up of a plurality of generally rectangular planks having longitudinally edges extending in side-to-side direction with respect to the deck. Adjacent planks are in generally edge-to-edge relationship, and pivotally interconnected by a hinge pin extending generally along the longitudinal edges of the adjacent planks. Thus, the planks will pivot upwardly and downwardly in an undulating fashion with respect to each other when the bridge is crossed.
