  • Patent number: 5412271
Abstract: Disclosed is a small-sized electric motor equipped with an improved electric connector, which prevents high forces being exerted on exposed conductors of an insulated wire in the course of insertion or withdrawal of the exposed conductors from the connector housing, thereby preventing the rubbing between the exposed conductors and the terminal contacts of the electric connector. The electric connector includes an actuator. The actuator, when fully inserted in said connector housing, is adapted to push the exposed conductors against the contacts of the contact beams of the terminals, thereby causing the contact beams of the terminals to be forced into the exposed conductors.

  • Patent number: 5404061
Abstract: A motor oil-filled protector device for use with an electric submergible pump motor, includes a tubular extension to inhibit contaminated fluid from contacting an internal pressure relief valve. A motor oil pressure relief valve within the protector has an intake in fluidic communication with at least one motor oil-filled expandable chamber and has a discharge in fluidic communication with a fluid-filled section of the housing. Over a period of time, wellbore fluids tend to leak into and displace motor oil within the fluid-filled section. A tubular extension is connected to the discharge of the pressure relief valve and extends into a lower portion of the fluid filled section. When motor oil is discharged from the pressure relief valve, such motor oil will tend to stay within the tubular extension, because the oil is lighter than the wellbore fluids, and thereby inhibit the wellbore fluids from contacting and possibly harming the operation of the pressure relief valve.

  • Patent number: 5399930
Abstract: This invention is for magnetic actuators which are composed of individually controlled layers. Each layer comprises a stationary sheet 34, a movable sheet 30 and a roller 40 between the sheets. Each layer may either have ribs 32 or sheet portions having conductors, remanent portions or permeable portions which apply a magnetic force against the roller to move the sheets. The magnetic force may be between a current carrying roller and a current carrying rib or sheet portion, a current carrying roller and a remanent rib or sheet portion, a current carrying roller and a permeable rib or sheet portion, a magnetic roller and a current carrying rib or sheet portion, or a permeable roller and a current carrying rib or sheet portion. The sheets in each layer may be moved in parallel or normal directions. When the layers are stacked, actuators may be made. The actuators can be controlled in pairs or larger groups to position and move objects and motor shafts. Thus motors generators and actuators can be made.

  • Patent number: 5386164
Abstract: A motor assembly has a lead guard detachably disposed within a housing adjacent a conductor receiving opening formed therein. The lead guard defines a space within the motor housing into which a conductor may be routed. The guard has a generally flat portion and an upstanding portion connected at an angle thereto that extends around three of four perimetral edges of the flat portion. A mounting mechanism is provided to position the lead guard within the housing of the motor. A guide mechanism for guiding conductors fed through the conductor receiving opening into the space defined by the lead guard may also be provided. This guide mechanism may be attached to or integrally molded with the generally flat portion of the lead guard and may include an angled/ramped portion, the edge of which abuts the inner surface of the housing below the conductor receiving opening to prevent conductors from entering the motor housing and coming in contact with rotating components disposed therein.

  • Patent number: 5382862
Abstract: A rotor for an alternating current generator of the Lundell type. The rotor shaft carries two segments which have interleaved pole teeth. The rotor has a core member and a field coil disposed about the core member. The segments and/or core member are formed of compressed powder iron particles having a particle size in a range of about 10 to 250 microns. In the manufacture of the core and/or segments the iron powder particles are coated with a thermoplastic material and this thermoplastic coated iron particle material is compacted in the molding dies of a press. After compaction to the desired shape, the part is sintered at a temperature of about 2050.degree. F. to burn-off the thermoplastic material that coated the iron particles.

  • Patent number: 5381064
Abstract: A plurality of stepper motors, each of which comprises a stator assembly and a rotor, are axially aligned to form with a control system an encoder for use in a printing apparatus. The rotors constitute print wheels which support different print characters. The stator assembly of each motor only extends above a part of the circumference of the associated rotor. This enables the axial extent of the print wheels to be reduced, A sensor arrangement is provided to enable the home position of each wheel to be determined. In operation, the control system receives desired print character information and rotates the associated rotor to the correct position for printing to take place. Once all rotors have been rotated to their desired position for printing, printing can then take place. The arrangement enables the printing process to run faster than previously.
