Abstract: Novel quaternary ammonium compounds which include the adamantane ring system linked to the quaternary ammonium group by a hydrocarbon chain or by other functional groups, such as ether, carboxylic ester, carboxamide, keto, carbamate ester, thiocarbamate ester, etc.
Abstract: Compositions made by reacting (A) an acylated amino hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid having an acyl portion containing a substantially saturated hydrocarbyl substituent of at least about 12 carbon atoms and bonded to the amino hydrocarbyl sulfonic acid through an acyl, acylimidoyl or acyloxy linkage, (B) a heterocyclic reagent such as an epoxide, episulfide or aziridine and (C) an amino compound having about 1 to about 400 carbon atoms or an organo-sulfide having 2 to about 50 carbon atoms are useful in fuels and lubricants as dispersants, anti-static agents and corrosion inhibitors.
Abstract: Reaction products of mercaptans, ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with glycidol are effective antistatic agents when added to thermoplastics, and often also act as processing stabilisers.

The compounds correspond to the formula ##SPC1##WhereinY represents --S--, CH.sub.2 S-- or ##EQU1## Z represents --S--, --O-- or --NH--, R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 -alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 -alkynyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 -haloalkenyloxy, halogen, CN or NO.sub.2,R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 -alkoxy or halogen, orR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together represent the 3,4-methylenedioxy group, andR.sub.3 represents hydrogen or methyl, andR.sub.4 represents hydrogen, methyl or halogen.
Abstract: Vinyl 2-arylthiovinyl and vinyl 2-alkylthiovinyl sulfones, having fungicidal and algicidal activity, are prepared by the addition of arylsulfenyl halides or alkylsulfenyl halides to divinyl sulfone and the dihydrohalogenation of the resulting 1,2-addition product.
Abstract: Alpha,alpha-dichloro-methane-sulfenyl chlorides and alpha-chloromethylbenzyl sulfides useful as herbicides and chemical intermediates for herbicides and their method of manufacture.
Abstract: This specification relates to a detergent. More particularly, it is concerned with a detergent which is a sulfur analog of a polyolether or polyolpolyether.
Abstract: A new class of 2,6-dinitroanilines bearing a thiocyanato group in the 3-position is disclosed. The new compounds possess activity against Plasmopara viticola, the causative organism of grape downy mildew.
Abstract: Bis-(1-halo-2-alkylthioethyl) and bis-(1-halo-2-arylthioethyl) sulfones, having algicidal and fungicidal activity, are prepared by the addition of alkylsulfenyl or arylsulfenyl halides to divinyl sulfones. The sulfone products may be treated with base to produce bis-2-alkylthiovinyl or bis-2-arylthiovinyl sulfones, which also have algicidal and fungicidal activity.
Abstract: New and valuable thiolcarbamates having a good herbicidal action, herbicides containing these compounds, and a process for controlling the growth of unwanted plants with these compounds.

Abstract: A polyhydroxyl monosulfoxide surfactant, usefully employed, for instance, in a cosmetic composition such as a shampoo, a hair dye formulation or a bath foam composition, has the formula ##EQU1## wherein R is selected from the group consisting of linear or branched aliphatic saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon having 8-22 carbon atoms, alkylbenzyl having 8-22 carbon atoms and mixtures thereof, and n has a statistical mean value greater than 1 and equal to or less than 10, and preferably 2-7.
Abstract: Meta-bifunctional of the general formula ##EQU1## wherein A is selected from the groups ##EQU2## These compounds possess herbicidal activity.
Abstract: Processes for the continuous production of aromatic carboxylic acids by reaction of nitric acid with an aromatic compound having an oxidizable alkyl or alkoxyalkyl substitutent which comprise mixing the aromatic compound in the form of small droplets with a large volume of dilute nitric acid having a concentration between 2 and 14% by weight of nitric acid that is maintained at a superatmospheric pressure between 15 and 80 atmospheres and at a temperature between 160.degree. and 230.degree.

Abstract: Novel p-cycloalkylphenylacetic acids which are substituted in .alpha.-position by a carbamylthio, loweralkylcarbamylthio, or diloweralkylcarbamylthio group, and their salts have been prepared. They possess useful antiinflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of an organomercaptophenol is described which comprises the reaction of sulfur with a 2,6-disubstituted phenol carried out in the presence of (1) a base, (2) an activated olefin or an epoxy compound, (3) and a solvent with a high dielectric constant. The organomercaptophenols produced by this process are useful as monomers in the synthesis of esters, carbonates, ethers, epoxy compounds, among many other chemicals synthesized from monohydric phenols. In addition, the oganomercaptophenols are also useful as antioxidants.
