Abstract: A body of volatile, inorganic, normally liquid chemical which reacts with water, such as liquid sulfur trioxide, is treated to suppress the evolution of noxious acidic vapors therefrom to the atmosphere by applying to the exposed surface of said liquid body a treating agent consisting essentially of a fluorinated aliphatic liquid thickened with a thickening agent, such as fumed silica, to increase the viscosity thereof and render it relatively immobile and reduce the rate of flow of said vapors from said liquid body.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for monitoring air to determine the presence of chloromethyl methyl ether at the part per billion level. The above compound is reacted with an alkali metal salt of an alcohol, a phenol, or a chlorophenol to form a derivative which provides suitable sensitivity when applied to a gas chromatograph utilizing a suitable detector such as a hydrogen flame detector or, if a chlorophenol reactant is used, an electron capture detector.
Abstract: An apparatus for sterilization of fluid in sealed containers such as ampoules, the apparatus has a chamber provided with a hot air distributor therein, a magazine conveyor comprising a drum mounted to be rotable about its vertical axis in said chamber having compartment defining means thereon defining a plurality of vertically stacked tiers of compartments for accomodation and transportation of containers to be treated, said chamber having a plurality of bottom walls fixedly mounted therein one being associated with each tier of compartments and constituting the bottoms of said compartments each bottom wall having a gap therein, the gaps being at different circumferential positions, the gaps being for transferring containers inserted and carried in compartments automatically one after the other to the next adjacent lower tier at said positions, one wall of each compartment permitting passage of air therethrough and apparatus for supply and removal of containers to be treated to and from said magazine conveyor
Abstract: Sterilant package comprised of first and second sheets of a gas barrier material and an intermediate sheet of paper having a material capable of releasing gaseous formaldehyde on heating, the sheets being sealed together to define the package, with the paper sheet being in the interior of the package. The paper sheet divides the package into two compartments.

Abstract: A laboratory testing procedure wherein test tubes are uniquely supported under conditions of refrigeration, the test tubes being placed in a generally vertical position with only the test tube bottom portions in contact with the top surfaces of a closed refrigerant reservoir having heat-absorbing means confined therein.
Abstract: Apparatus for admixing a deodorizing liquid with a bad smelling liquid, comprises a hollow body in the form of a Y lying on its side in a vertical plane, the lower leg of the Y discharging the admixed liquids and the upper leg of the Y supporting and housing conduits for supplying the deodorizing liquid lengthwise of the body to dispensers therefor located adjacent the lower end of the body. A fixed shaft within the body has partitions secured thereto that are comprised by a plurality of blades and are oppositely inclined for initially mixing the two liquids. Above these partitions, a rotary helicoidal turbine is rotated by a turbine shaft that extends through the upper leg of the Y.
Abstract: A sterilization apparatus for plastic webbing comprises a chamber containing one or more rollers having a porous surface. Disinfectant is fed through the porous roller surface as the webbing passes thereover, thus sterilizing the surface of the webbing.
Abstract: Apparatus and method for cleaning the exterior surface of a pipe such as a pipe located in a sub-sea location having a coating of concrete or the like thereabout. The apparatus includes a generally longitudinal frame which supports a carriage for longitudinal traverse therealong. The carriage supports a high-pressure fluid nozzle which is arranged to direct the discharge thereof against the pipe coating which is to be removed. The carriage is arranged for longitudinal traverse along the frame, to thereby direct a high-pressure fluid stream into contact with the surface of the pipe. The frame is also arranged for rotation about the pipe, whereby a section of the pipe can be cleaned about its full circumference by a number of generally longitudinal runs along the pipe section being cleaned. The carriage may also support a wire cutter for cutting any re-enforcing wire after the concrete has been dislodged by the fluid nozzle.
