  • Patent number: 7280678
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for pupil detection are described. First light is emitted from a first light source at a first illumination angle relative to the axis of a detector. Second light is emitted from a second light source at a second illumination angle relative to the axis. The first light and the second light can have substantially equal intensities. The second illumination angle is greater than the first illumination angle. Reflected first light and reflected second light are received at the detector. The difference between the reflected first light and the reflected second light can be determined. The difference can be used to detect the pupils of a subject's eyes.

  • Patent number: 7239736
Abstract: When a three-dimensional structure is formed by welding a plurality of members, accurate welding can be performed matching the three-dimensional shape. The teaching data consisting of the three-dimensional position at each of the welding points determined on each of the welding lines at a predetermined spacing on the basis of the design data of the three-dimensional structure is stored in a memory 18. A laser slit light sensor (a laser slit light emitting section 12 and a CD camera 13) is controlled by a total controller 17 via a camera controller 14 to photograph the welding point in order to obtain the image data of the welding point. An image processing apparatus 16 processes the image data to determine the amount of deviation from the design data of welding points.

  • Patent number: 7194133
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for obtaining an accurate detected value of a similarity between images or the like. Original standard and input pattern matrices, each having a feature quantity of an image as an element, are created (Sb1 and Sb3). A weighting vector having a value of a change rate of a kurtosis of a reference pattern vector composed of a reference shape as an element is created, and an original and weighted standard pattern matrix is calculated by a product-sum operation of an element value of the weighting vector and an element value of the original standard pattern matrix (Sb2).

  • Patent number: 7190807
Abstract: The invention is to precisely extract a digital watermark from image data which are subjected to embedding of the digital watermark in a state of a binary image and are then converted into a multi-value image (gray scale image). For attaining the foregoing object, a digital watermark extracting apparatus for extracting a digital watermark for example in an original includes an acquiring unit for acquiring multi-value image data obtained by reading the original with a predetermined reading unit, a pre-processing unit for selecting one of plural threshold values and binarizing the multi-value image data with the selected threshold value, and an extracting unit for extracting the digital watermark from image data binarized in the pre-processing unit, wherein selection of the threshold value, binarization an extraction of the digital watermark are repeated to obtain an optimum extraction result of the digital watermark.

  • Patent number: 7151850
Abstract: Teaching data setting apparatus and a method for image processing are provided to enable setting optimum teaching data to achieve reduction in errors and error detection in the image processing. A subject teaching data generating section 1 uses databases of subject attributes and recognition operation conditions for a plurality of pieces of teaching data representing all possible combinations of the subject attributes and the recognition operation conditions. A teaching data candidate selecting section 2 selects, from the generated plurality of pieces of teaching data, teaching data candidates related to a subject to be mounted and a mounting machine for use. A subject image input section 3 is supplied with a simple subject image representing only the subject. An evaluation image generating section 4 generates predetermined evaluation images by using the simple subject image.

  • Patent number: 7116804
Abstract: A user's handwritten signature data is transmitted to a host device, when the user registers his or her signature. A signature information controlling unit reads the codes of a character string of a font closest to handwriting shape data by referencing a signature dictionary information unit, extracts a predetermined number of digits of numeric values from the codes, generates a user ID by making the numeric values successive to the number of codes, and registers this user ID and the input handwritten signature to the signature dictionary information unit by making a correspondence between them. When a signature is authenticated, a user ID is automatically generated from a handwritten signature input by a user, and checked between generated user ID and registered user ID.

  • Patent number: 7113636
Abstract: A method and computer program product are disclosed for generating training data over a plurality of feature variables for a new output class in a pattern recognition classifier representing a plurality of existing classes with previously calculated statistical parameters. Deviation measures are generated for each feature variable for each of the plurality of existing classes from the calculated statistical parameters. The deviation measures for each feature variable are averaged across the plurality of existing classes. Feature data is extracted from an ideal pattern, representing the new class, for each of the feature variables. Statistical parameters are approximated for each feature variable for the new class from the extracted feature data and the averaged deviation measures.

  • Patent number: 7079669
Abstract: An image processing apparatus detecting a wheelchair passenger for an elevator. This image processing apparatus includes a TV camera installed so that a hail where passengers are waiting is monitored through the camera, which is located in the vicinity of the elevator door, a face area extraction unit, a wheelchair area estimation unit, and a wheelchair existence judgment unit. The image processing apparatus is operated in the following manner, one or a several passengers' face area is identified by the face area extraction unit in the image picked-up by the TV camera, and the position of the face area in the image is detected. If the passenger is sitting in a wheelchair, the area where the wheelchair is likely to be in the image is estimated by the wheelchair area estimation unit from the position of the face area. The estimated area where the wheelchair is likely to be is checked by the wheelchair existence judgment unit, to determine whether the wheelchair is present.
