  • Patent number: 6113087
Abstract: A workpiece clamp comprising an upstanding pillar (30, 32) having two relatively movable workpiece engaging jaws (34, 36, 42, 44) extending from, and carried by the upper end of the pillar. A drive (74) for effecting the movement of the jaws is located remote from the pillar and thrust transmitting means (54, 56, 62, 66) extends between the drive and one or both of the jaws, to effect relative movement between it and the other. The drive transmitting means may comprise a rigid thrust transmitting member such as a rod or lever, or a flexible sheathed cable, a sheathed rod or an exposed rod, a chain or a set of levers operatively connected one to the other, or any combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 6113090
Abstract: Apparatus for supporting a primary automotive door panel and door trim panel during a manufacturing process includes at least one rest block. The rest block has a rocker provided with first and second arms extending radially outwardly from a pivot axis at an angle to one another and perpendicular to the pivot axis such that adjacent surfaces of the arms form a radially outwardly opening recess. The rocker is supported for pivotal movement from a loading position in which the recess opens laterally to a work-supporting position in which the recess opens upwardly. The inner surfaces of the arm meet adjacent to the pivot axis to define a notch adapted to support a lower edge portion of the primary door panel when the rocker is in the work-supporting position. One of the arms has a shelf adapted to support the trim panel when the rocker is in the work-supporting position. The other arm carries a roller made of a soft, non-abrasive material such as rubber or plastic.

  • Patent number: 6102384
Abstract: A nozzle setting jig useful for aligning and holding a nozzle in proper orientation in an upwardly positioned opening in a sidewall of a pipe or round vessel for welding the nozzle thereto. The jig is useful for use with standard nozzles which nozzles include a short cylindrical section with a flange attached to one end while the other end is contoured cut to coincide with the curvature of a sidewall of a pipe or vessel to which the nozzle will be attached. The nozzle setting jig includes a nozzle flange mounting plate with two length adjustably legs which are self centering and which are adaptable for use with numerous size nozzles. The jig allows a welder to set the proper depth of the nozzle within the opening in the pipe or vessel while also aligning the heavy nozzle both laterally and archingly in relation to the longitudinal axis of the pipe or vessel to which the nozzle will be attached.

  • Patent number: 6092797
Abstract: A quick clamping type vice in which a chuck and a spring are disposed in a main base seat. The chuck is substantially U-shaped and an inner side of the bottom of the chuck is formed with a semicircular thread facing upward. A cover board is disposed on the upper side of the chuck and locked with the chuck to form an integral body. The spring is disposed right under the chuck. The thread rod passes through the main base seat and ride on the bottom of the chuck. The spring pushed the chuck upward to make the thread of the chuck engaged with the thread rod. When the cover board is depressed, the chuck is vertically moved downward and disengaged from the thread rod. At this time, the thread rod is liberated and can be quickly slided. When releasing the cover board, the spring makes the thread of the chuck again engaged with the thread rod. Accordingly, the clamping and loosening operation of the vice can be quickly performed.

  • Patent number: 6082231
Abstract: A pair of pliers includes a body, a movable handle, a movable jaw, a push block, and a pull element. The movable handle and the movable jaw are both connected pivotally to the body so that they can displace about an angle. When the movable handle turns in the direction of the body, it can bring the push block to displace therewith so that a U-shaped end push portion of the push block press against a curved rack portion at the bottom face of the lower portion of the movable jaw, causing the curved jaw teeth of the movable jaw to close in the direction of a fixed jaw. And when the movable handle and the end push portion disengage from the front acting teeth of the curved rack portion, they can press against the rear acting teeth of the curved rack portion to clamp pipes of a larger contact surface. When the movable handle is turned outwardly away from the fixed handle, the pull element is utilized to cause the movable jaw to pull and turn quickly to a desired angle.

  • Patent number: 6080042
Abstract: A wafer polishing apparatus includes one or more wafer carriers each containing one or more wafers mounted on both sides of the carrier. Upper and lower turntables having upper and lower polishing surfaces, rotate to polish the wafers attached to the carriers. Hence, wafers on the top of the carriers, and wafers on the bottom of the carriers are polished simultaneously. This configuration increases throughput; also, thermal deformations in the wafers are reduced, thus improving flatness.

  • Patent number: 6073329
Abstract: A fixture for use in assembling a first element and a second element is provided. The first element is substantially in shaft type and the second element includes a sleeve defining an axial channel. The first element is received within the axial channel in a non-engagement condition before assembly. The assembly fixture includes a lower mold device and an upper mold device. The lower mold device is used to place the first element and the second element in a non-engagement condition before assembly. The upper mold device includes a rotatable concentricity alignment device. As the upper mode device and lower mold device are operated under a mold-press condition, the concentricity alignment device automatically performs concentricity alignment procedure of first element with regard to the sleeve of the second element and accomplishes the press fit process.

  • Patent number: 6073916
Abstract: A device for removing a plurality of cables from a plurality of reels and thereafter feeding or advancing the cables to, for example, a conduit. The device includes a pair of rotary members positionable relative to each other such that the cables are frictionally retained therebetween. Each of the rotary members has a generally flexible peripheral surface which frictionally contacts the plurality of cables and generally at least partially conforms thereto. A motor is connected to at least one of the rotary members, and the motor rotates the rotary member thereby causing the rotary members to pull the cables from the reels and thereafter advance or feed the cables to, for example, a conduit.

  • Patent number: 6065462
Abstract: A closed loop wire saw loop, a method for making the closed wire saw loop, and an apparatus and method for slicing a work piece, in particular, a polysilicon or single crystal silicon ingot, utilizing a closed loop of diamond impregnated wire in which the work piece (or ingot) is rotated about its longitudinal axis as the diamond wire is driven orthogonally to it and advanced from a position adjoining the outer diameter ("OD") of the ingot towards its inner diameter ("ID"). In this manner, the diamond wire cuts through the work piece at a substantially tangential point to the circumference of the cut instead of through up to the entire diameter of the piece and single crystal silicon ingots of 300 mm to 400 mm or more may be sliced into wafers relatively quickly, with minimal `kerf` loss and less extensive follow-on lapping operations. The closed wire saw loop is made by squaring and welding the wire ends together and then twice heat treating the weld at about 1500 F.

  • Patent number: 6050546
Abstract: A small vehicle lift of the parallelogram type is described wherein parallel pivoting legs are pivotally attached at their opposing ends to a base and a support platform, whereby the lift ranges from a lowered state wherein the support platform is in close parallel relation to the base and a raised position wherein the support platform is in spaced parallel relation to the base. Both the support platform and the base pivotally bear the legs within channels and thereby surround the legs at opposing planes adjacent the planes wherein the legs pivot. The channels within the base also have wheels rotatably mounted therein to allow the lift to be easily transported. Two opposing pivoting legs are affixed together by a bridge member which is pivotally connected to a linear actuator, which is in turn pivotally connected to the base. Actuation of the linear actuator thereby raises and lowers the support platform with respect to the base.

  • Patent number: 6042085
Abstract: A jack includes a base member having a first chamber in which a piston is received, a main cylinder connected to base member and having a tube extending therein to which the lifting piston is movably mounted, a casing mounted to the main cylinder so as to define a second chamber between the casing and the main cylinder. A first path connects the second chamber and the first chamber and a second path connects the first chamber and the tube so that fluid enters into the tube to extend the lifting piston by operating the piston.
