    Abstract: This device addresses the treatment of femoral neck trauma which includes basilar, mid-cervical and sub-cap fractures. The assembly has a lag screw assembly, side plate, compression screw and cortical screw, which are implantable. A syringe adaptor instrument delivers ortho-biologic material to the fracture site through the lag screw assembly. The lag screw assembly utilizes a cannulated screw with external threads and deployable tangs to anchor into the femoral head and is implanted in such a manner as to have the lag screw threads and tangs located on the opposite side of the fracture from the side plate. The distal shaft of the lag screw interfaces with the side plate in a manner which allows axial translation only.

    Abstract: A system for calibrating an error between the location of a feature of an object as determined by indirect calculation compared to as determined by physical measurement in order to be able to use this determined error to correct the location of the feature as determined by calculation in actual use in the field. This error is found by calculating the position and orientation of the object, having energy emitters disposed thereon, in a plurality of orientations and positions relative to a reference frame, but with the feature in a substantially constant position relative to the reference frame; calculating the locations of the feature of the object from these calculated positions and orientations; averaging these calculated locations; determining the location of the feature by physical measurement thereof in relation to the physical locations of the emitters; and comparing the calculated average location with the physically measured loacation to arrive at the error.

    Abstract: Existing bone dowels are improved through the use of rigid, preferably metallic end plates. The plates are positioned relative to the anterior and posterior end surfaces of the bone dowel, which may be an existing, modified, or a specially fabricated bone section. The completed structure may be inserted, removed, and positioned into the vertebrae in the same manner as existing devices, that is, by way of a threaded or frictional fit, just as the dowel being fortified. However, the use of the rigid endplates facilitates load sharing which helps to prevent graft fracture. In the preferred embodiment, the end plates are positioned against the end surfaces of the bone section through the use of a link member, which passes through the interior of the bone section and connects the end plates. One of the end plates may include a threaded bore, and one end of the link member may be threaded to receive the threaded bore of that end plate to hold it in place.

    Abstract: A surgical apparatus for anchoring and reattachment of torn tissue such as a rotator cuff against on the outer or exterior surface of a tissue substrate. The invention includes a tissue substrate anchor such as that having expandable wings, an elongated suture member securable at its proximal end to the tissue substrate anchor, and a torn tissue retainer lockingly attachable along the length of the suture member by mating interlocking structure therebetween. Tension is applied to the free distal end of the suture member while the tissue retainer is non-reversibly moved longitudinally along on the suture member to secure the torn tissue against the tissue substrate outer surface. A separate torn tissue gripping member may also be provided for broadened and enhanced torn tissue securement against the tissue substrate. In another embodiment, the tissue anchor is formed as a unit with the suture member enabling additional forms of tissue repair such as the closure of an internal meniscus tear or separation.

    Abstract: A laparascopic incision closure device comprised of an ejector housing having a handpiece trigger that is activated by compression and is biased to return to an initial position. The handpiece is so carried by the ejector housing that compression and retraction of the handpiece sequentially advances a flexible wire push-rod to eject a T-bar suture and retracts the flexible wire push-rod to index a ratchet which feeds the T-bar portion of a T-bar suture into the longitudinal bore of a needle carried by the ejector housing. The strand portion of the T-bar suture trails the T-bar portion through the longitudinal bore. Multiple T-bar sutures are axially spaced and detachably carried on a suture spline by spline mount tabs connected to the T-bar portion of the T-bar sutures and are stored in the interior of the ejector housing for quick and easy placement through fascia on opposite sides of a wound.

    Abstract: A lancet assembly having a lancet holder and a triggler enclosing a lancet structure. The triggler is partially inserted into a lancet holder from the distal end. The holder is provided with a rigid internal spring holder to receive the spring-loaded lancet structure. The lancet structure is provided with a body coupled to a spring which extend from the proximal end of the body. The spring has a linear axis of compression which coincide with the longitudinal axis of the lancet assembly. A lancet is attached to the body with the sharp tip pointing towards the distal end. The triggler interacts with the lancet holder via a triggering element to maintain the spring in a compressed state such that the lancet structure is in a stable standby position which is not easily triggered by accidental bumps on the assembly.
