  • Patent number: 9240893
Abstract: Systems and methods for implementing a bidirectional multicast protocol with two types of join messages are disclosed. The two types of join messages, upstream joins and downstream joins, are used to control the Reverse Path Forwarding (RPF) interface is added to the outgoing interface list for a particular multicast group, which in turn controls when multicast packets will be forwarded to the rendezvous point. One method involves receiving a multicast packet addressed to multicast group G. The method inhibits the multicast packet from being forwarded via the RPF interface, unless the outgoing interface list corresponding to the multicast group G already identifies the RPF interface. The RPF interface can be added to the outgoing interface list in response to reception of a downstream join message via the RPF interface, as well as in response to monitoring, via the RPF interface, an upstream join message on a shared network segment.

  • Patent number: 9167599
Abstract: Methods of communicating location information from a subscriber to a repeater are described. The subscriber switches from a working channel to a data revert channel, transmits a request for a periodic or one-time window to transmit an update, and determines from grant information in the response announcement the allocated window and frame before switching back to the working channel. Before the allocated time, the subscriber switches to the data revert channel, confirms whether it remains scheduled to transmit the update from a repeater announcement, and if so transmits the location update in either the current or reserved window. The announcements from the repeater contain the identity of the next window and frame and the subscriber reserved to use the window in addition to grant information. The subscribers may or may not be time-aligned and the data and data revert channels may or may not be synchronized.

  • Patent number: 9148376
Abstract: A method provides for the dynamic traffic prioritization in a communication network. The method electronically monitors traffic in a communication network and determines when traffic exceeds configured thresholds on the links of the communication network. Thus, the method determines a link which is potentially about to be congested in the communication network. The method categorizes the traffic on this link by an end system attached to one end of the potentially congested link into a plurality of priority categories using application layer parameters. Using a re-direct capability of the end system, the method re-directs at least one of the pluralities of priority categories of traffic to an alternate Internet Protocol address. The method uses preconfigured Quality of Service mechanisms on the provider edge router attached to the other end of the potentially congested link to guarantee a predetermined amount of bandwidth capacity of the link to traffic destined to the alternate Internet Protocol address.

  • Patent number: 9136825
Abstract: A tracking circuit has first and second filters controlled by clock signals and a combiner. Each filter has N paths in parallel between an input and an output, each path comprising a respective first/second sub-circuit and a switch (N is an integer >1). The clock signals selectively control each of the N switches of the first and second filters at a same frequency, and in variously described embodiments the first and second on-time durations may be different, the first and second sub-circuits may be different, or both first/second on-time durations and first/second sub-circuits may be different. Signals output from the first and second filter are added at a combiner. In certain examples each path in the first and second filter is controlled by same-phase clock signals, and every path on either filter are controlled with different-phase clock signals.

  • Patent number: 9112959
Abstract: A system and method of negotiating Media Gateways (MGs) between a plurality of call control nodes (CCNs). The system includes a first CCN which builds an original list of identifiers associated with at least one MG capable of being used in a call by the first CCN. The system also includes a second CCN for receiving the original list of identifiers from the first CCN. The second CCN removes from the original list any identifiers associated with any MG in the original list of identifiers which is not capable of being used in the call by the second CCN. The second CCN then forms a modified list of identifiers associated with at least one MG capable of being used in a call by the first CCN and the second CCN. The second CCN also selects a specified MG from the modified list and sends a first backward message from the second CCN to the first CCN identifying the specified MG. The first CCN may then validate that the specified MG is on the original list of identifiers and selects the specified MG for the call.

  • Patent number: 9100210
Abstract: Multiple gateway devices communicating between a device level ring (DLR) network and a spanning tree (ST) network may be provided a gateway protocol that cooperatively ensures that only a single gateway is active at a given time. This cooperation may be effected by the transmission of advertise messages by gateways, the advertise messages holding precedence values so that only a single gateway having a highest precedence value is active at a given time. Loss of the advertise messages may trigger a gateway held in a backup state to assume an active gateway role.
