    Abstract: In a computer system divided into multiple separate workload partitions, wherein at least one of the partitions contains multiple applications, and a loopback interface is made available to each partition, a method is provided for routing packets from one application to another application. In one embodiment of the invention, each packet to be routed from one application to another application in the same home partition comprises a first packet, and all other packets comprise second packets. The method comprises the steps of assigning the same pre-specified IP address to each of the first packets, and routing each of the first packets from its home partition to a loopback interface at the IP network processing layer. The method further includes marking the first packets to identify the home partition of each first packet, and directing the marked first packets to a mechanism configured to deliver each first packet only to its home partition, in response to the markings.

    Abstract: Real-time delivery of multimedia content puts extreme demand on both computational and network resources. Many a times, the requirement is to handle multiple such delivery requirements and as a consequence, the overall delivery efficiency gets affected. Another dimension of complexity is that (a) the multimedia content to be delivered may not always be highly reliable, and (b) the network may also be not highly reliable. In such a situation, it becomes even more difficult to satisfy the quality of service requirements. When content to be delivered to multiple destinations is available at multiple sources, there is an opportunity to overcome the above mentioned complexity. The system and method for efficient delivery in a multi-source multi-destination network involves pulling of data from the multiple sources by measuring quality of service and reliability parameters, and efficiently loading the systems and the network in a cooperative manner.

    Abstract: In general, techniques are described for automatically releasing network resources reserved for use by network devices within a network. In particular, a network device, such as a router, may include an interface card that receives a first and a second message from respective first and second client devices requesting reservation of network resources. The first message may include a first identifier, while the second message may include a second identifier. Both messages however may also include the same additional context information that identifies the same context in which the first client device operates. The router may include a control unit that determines whether the additional context information included within the first and second messages is the same. Based on a determination that this information is the same, the control unit may automatically release resources reserved for use by the first client device within the network.

If the determined level of confidence exceeds a first level, the local network type for the client computer can automatically be set. If the determined level of confidence is less than the first level, but greater than a second level, a user can be prompted to classify the local network type with the determined local network type set as a default value. Techniques are also described for detecting whether or not two computers are connected to the same local area network.

    Abstract: A hybrid Butterfly Cube (“BCube”) architecture is described herein. The BCube architecture is a server-centric network architectural design, and includes a plurality of servers. Each of the plurality of servers may have multiple network ports and serve not only as an end host, but also an intermediate relay node for other servers. The BCube architecture further includes a plurality of switches which are arranged in multiple levels. Each switch has a certain number of network ports for connecting to the servers. The BCube architecture provides multiple parallel paths between any two servers. A packet source routing protocol and a BCube source routing (BSR) protocol are used to determine which path is used for routing a packet between any two servers.

Once the wireless bridge proves its compatibility, a configuration procedure included in an operating system on the game console configures the wireless bridge to connect to a wireless network so that the game console can communicate through the wireless bridge with a gaming site that is accessed over the Internet. The configuration is done without using a web browser program or a configuration program that is specific to a particular model and manufacturer of the wireless bridge.
