Patent number: 7257925Abstract: A system for mounting a member such as a rail to a support surface such as a floor, made of a precast concrete material, without penetrating the floor. The rail mounting system includes a base plate secured to the upper surface of the floor via an adhesive, with one or more connectors extending upwardly from the base plate. An anchor plate is secured to the rail, and adjustment screws are interconnected with the rail for adjusting the elevation of the rail relative to the base plate. When the desired elevation of the rail is attained, engagement members such as nuts are secured to the threaded connectors extending upwardly from the base plate, to fix the height of the anchor plate, and thereby the rail. A grout layer is then applied between the base plate and the anchor plate. After the grout layer is set, the leveling screws are removed and a topping layer of concrete is applied over the components of the mounting system so as to encapsulate the base plate, the anchor plate and the engagement members.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2004Date of Patent: August 21, 2007Assignee: Spacesaver CorporationInventors: Gary M. Patent number: 7246966Abstract: A joint assembly comprises a hollow extrusion member of an asymmetrical hexagonal section and a flange casting comprising a base flange and several webs including a top web and upper side webs which have joint faces presented to corresponding joint areas on the outside of the extrusion while a bottom web and lower side webs have joint faces which are presented to corresponding joint areas on the inside of the extrusion. To assemble the joint assembly an adhesive is applied to the joint faces and the extrusion aligned with the flange casting but offset vertically. The extrusion is then moved longitudinally towards the flange casting to the full extent permitted by abutment of an extrusion end face with steps to bring the joint faces into overlapping alignment with the corresponding joint areas on the extrusion, there being a substantial clearance due to the vertical offset so that the adhesive on the joint faces does not contact the joint areas on the extrusion at this stage.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2004Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventor: Peter Jolley

Patent number: 7246967Abstract: A cross clamping device comprises a base plate with first and second legs and a clamping piece that connects the two legs with each other. The cross clamping device also comprises a first clamp screwed onto the first leg by a first screw, and a second clamp screwed onto the second leg by a second screw. The base plate and the two clamps are formed such that a first bar and a second bar, which is rotated by 90° in relation to the first bar, are able to be clamped. By tightening of the first and second screws, the two bars are clamped. The two screws perform a double function, so that separate screws for clamping of the first bar and for clamping of the second bar are not necessary.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2004Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: Habasit AGInventor: Hansrudolf Iseli

Patent number: 7246791Abstract: An energy absorbing terminal is described that is made up of a plurality of cells partially defined by cambered panels made of thermoplastic or another suitable material. The panels are supported upon rectangular frames. The cambered portion of the panels provides a predetermined point of flexure for each panel and, thus, allows for energy dissipation during a collision. The stiffness of the crash cushion may be varied by altering material thicknesses and diaphragm spacing. In operation, a vehicle colliding in an end-on manner with the upstream end of the energy absorbing terminal will cause each of the cambered panels to bend angularly at its point of flexure and, thus, cause the cells to collapse axially. The use of thermoplastic, such as polyethylene results in a reversible, self-restoring collapse for the terminal, meaning that the terminal is reusable after most collisions.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2002Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: The Texas A&M University SystemInventors: Dean C.
