Abstract: A system for location of animals and/or objects in an environment includes a signal processing and signal generation system consisting of electromagnetic tags on animals (or other objects) in an environment (typically a three dimension outdoor natural environment) where the animals or objects are physically present at arbitrary locations, and an electro-magnetic signal generating, signal receiving, and signal processing system that can move through or in relation to the environment. The system can compute the location and identity of the animals or objects based on signals received from their associated tags, including the calculated location of the ID tags, which function as “Reader-Locators.” The calculated location is enhanced by information about the environment provided by maps, satellite photos, GPS, GIS and/or other data specific to the probability of the location of the animals or objects within certain regions of the environment.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and apparatuses that enable an apparatus to identify sounds from short samples of audio. The apparatus may capture an audio sample and create several audio signals of different lengths, each containing audio from the captured audio sample. The apparatus my process the several audio signals in an attempt to identify features of the audio signal that indicate an identification of the captured sound. Because shorter audio samples can be analyzed more quickly, the system may first process the shortest audio samples in order to quickly identify features of the audio signal. Because longer audio samples contain more information, the system may be able to more accurately identify features in the audio signal in longer audio samples. However, analyzing longer audio signals takes more buffered audio than identifying features in shorter signals. Therefore, the present system attempts to identify features in the shortest audio signals first.

Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing driver distraction and situation non-awareness related to a dialog of an automated dialog system in a vehicle. For a dialog policy learning session, driver distraction is introduced as an input into a penalty assigner that assesses dialog quality, and dialog acts are extended to include dialogs and dialog act presentation styles which reduce driver workload related to dialogs. The automated dialog system policy is developed during the learning process by optimizing the penalties, so that automated dialog workload is reduced in response to increased workload or anticipated workload on the driver. Methods and systems are presented for responding to both actual workload in regular vehicles as well as anticipated workload in autonomous vehicles.

Abstract: Haptic control device that includes a tactile panel mounted movably relative to a support including a peripheral wall, characterized by the fact that a seal is arranged on the periphery of the tactile panel in an annular space situated between the tactile panel and the peripheral wall of the support, the seal including: an inner portion in tight contact with the tactile panel, an outer portion in tight contact with the peripheral wall of the support, and a connecting portion that extends between the inner portion and the outer portion and is elastically deformable so as to absorb the relative displacements of the tactile panel relative to the peripheral wall of the support without removing the haptic effect produced by the movements of the tactile panel.
Abstract: Traffic at an intersection, or other portion of a road, is detected, and the stop/go traffic signal apparatus at the intersection, or other portion is controlled based on vehicle types in the detected traffic. A vehicle type may be determined based on information collected by that vehicle's onboard telematics unit, or with a user's device in communication therewith. An input may be received from a user device, onboard the vehicle, to request changing the current stop/go configuration of the traffic signal. The request may be processed based on the determined vehicle type to determine whether or not to change the traffic signal in response to the request. The request may be accompanied by an offer of money, and if the request is not granted, the user device may forward another request associated with a different offer.
Abstract: A system including an alarm device, the alarm device further includes a switch mode buck converter, a capacitor that is charged by the buck converter, a boost converter that powers an output device primarily from energy drawn from the capacitor and circuitry coupled to the buck converter and boost converter, wherein the buck converter charges the capacitor with a relatively constant current and wherein the circuitry dynamically adjusts an instantaneous duty cycle of the buck converter to achieve the constant current based upon a power setting of the output device.
Abstract: A system for protecting user's body from the attacks of electro-sensitive animals is provided. The system includes a frequency generator, a modulator, a controller, a level shifter, plurality of electrodes and a power source to provide power to the controller. The controller generates pattern for the modulator and further the controller controls the frequency generator and the level shifter. The frequency generator generates waveforms and frequencies on the instructions programmed by the user in the controller. The modulator then mixes the pattern with waveforms or frequencies. The level shifter shifts results of the modulator to a higher voltage level and further transmits the polarized waveforms and frequencies to the plurality of electrodes.
Abstract: Various apparatus and methods for smoke detection are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of training a classifier for a smoke detector comprises inputting sensor data from a plurality of tests into a processor. The sensor data is processed to generate derived signal data corresponding to the test data for respective tests. The derived signal data is assigned into categories comprising at least one fire group and at least one non-fire group. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) training is performed by the processor. The derived signal data and the assigned categories for the derived signal data are inputs to the LDA training. The output of the LDA training is stored in a computer readable medium, such as in a smoke detector that uses LDA to determine, based on the training, whether present conditions indicate the existence of a fire.

Abstract: A turn signal canceling device for a motorcycle includes a straight-ahead travel or turn determining unit for determining whether the motorcycle is travelling straight ahead or is turning and a turn signal cancellation controller which automatically cancels turn signal operation. When a vehicle speed is not greater than a predetermined speed and a driving force is at least a predetermined driving force at a time the straight-ahead travel or turn determining unit determines that the motorcycle is turning, the turn signal cancellation controller enters a standby state. When the straight-ahead travel or turn determining unit determines that the motorcycle is travelling straight ahead during the standby state, the turn signal cancellation controller automatically deactivates a turn signal. When the driving force becomes smaller than the predetermined driving force or turn signal becomes manually deactivated during the standby state, the turn signal cancellation controller returns to the normal operating state.
