Abstract: A cane system having an attachment end that is constructed and arranged to temporarily secure to a floor mounting plate. The floor mounting plate includes an attachment mechanism that allows the cane to be attached in an upright secure position, wherein the user can rely upon the cane to help stand up from a seated position. The attachment mechanism is further used to release the cane from the floor mounting plate, preferably by a foot operated lever. A spring-loaded T-handle is used for height adjustment of the cane, allowing ease of adjustment to accommodate a standing or sitting position.

Abstract: A shelter system for a truck includes a platform assembly that can pivot back-and-forth between a stowed position and a deployed position. The platform assembly spans a bed of a truck when in the stowed position. The platform assembly is disposed over a cab of the truck when in the deployed position. A tent covers the platform assembly when the platform assembly is in the deployed position.

Abstract: The invention provides a portable, free-standing shade structure that is resistant to wind. The inventive shade structure can comprise a frame and a sheet, or canopy, that is connected to the frame under tension at two or more different heights to create an uneven, hypar conformation in the sheet. The uneven, hypar conformation of the sheet transfers wind force to the frame so as to press the frame against the surface upon which the shade structure rests, thereby making the inventive shade structure resistant to the movement, tipping, lift, and vibration that typically results when a portable shade structure is exposed to wind.

In some embodiments, a pole structure includes telescopically movable pole portions and a spring-biasing mechanism configured to bias one pole portion away from the other. In some embodiments, a center hub structure of the portable shelter includes a locking mechanism for engaging one of the pole portions to interfere with telescopic movement of the pole structure. In some embodiments, a pole structure includes a flexible portion attached to a first rigid portion, and a second rigid portion that is movable relative to the first rigid portion. The second rigid portion is pivotable or telescopically movable between a first position in which the second rigid portion overlaps the first rigid portion such that the flexible portion is free to flex, and a second position in which the second rigid portion overlaps and restrains the flexible portion.

The plurality of arms can be moveably connected to the central axis structure, such that the arms can be retracted into or extended from the base body structure. In some embodiments, the base body structure comprises open portions along its length. In some embodiments, the retractable umbrella frame devices further comprise one or more secondary support structures at least partially surrounding the base body structure. In some embodiments, the retractable umbrella frame devices can further comprise guide structures connected to the one or more secondary support structures and the arms of the skeletal frame structure.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an orthopedic device and methods to aid in reducing weight or pressure on a portion of a subject's knee while maintaining stability and normal gait patterns following injury or surgery. Certain embodiments include a main shaft for use in an orthopedic device, wherein the main shaft includes a curved portion. In embodiments, the curved portion cures outwardly in the walking direction. The curvature can comprise a curvature that is consistent with the maximum knee flexion angle that is observed during the loading phase of the normal gait cycle. In embodiments, the device further comprises a handle portion and a foot, wherein the main shaft is disposed between the handle portion and the foot. Additional aspects include a method of promoting the healing or recovery in a subject following injury or surgery of the knee using any one or more of the orthopedic devices disclosed herein.

During the operation from the seated position to the collapsed position, the seating member is actuated to move the guiding slope surface to generate a retention force for keeping the seating member unmoved relative to the positioning member so as to facilitate the folding operation.
