Abstract: A miniature telephone handset that is convertible into a headset for use in conjunction with a telephone base unit. The telephone handset includes a housing, a microphone mounted near one end of the housing, an earphone mounted near the other end of the housing, a cable for electrically connecting the microphone and the earphone to the telephone base unit, a bushing rotatably coupled to the housing near the earphone end, and a removable headband adapted for insertion into the bushing and operable for supporting the housing next to a user's head when used as a headset.
Abstract: A microphone arrangement, suitable for a telephone handset, comprises an array of microphone transducers, conveniently pressure transducers arranged at the vertices of a cube. Signal processing circuitry derives from the transducer outputs signals representing the magnitude and direction of the pressure gradient of the sound field at the array. In response to these signals, the microphone transducer outputs are weighted so as to direct the directional sensitivity lobe of the microphone towards the source of the maximum sound detected thereby.
Abstract: In an electroacoustic converter, center pole and top plate which constitute a magnetic circuit are mechanically abutted against each other by interposing an air gap defining member therebetween. The air gap defining member is a projection provided on the center pole or top plate, otherwise non-magnetic ring-like sleeve covered on the center pole or top plate. An air gap in the magnetic circuit can be precisely defined by the air gap defining member without using any alignment tool in its assemble process.
Abstract: Loudspeaker unit including a frame (FIG. 2) serving as sound guide to which the loudspeaker chassis (FIG. 1) is releasably fastened. According to the invention, form-locking cooperating detent means (4-6, 29-31) are provided on the frame and on the loudspeaker chassis. The loudspeaker chassis can be inserted into the frame by means of a relative translatory movement and can be removed by a rotational movement. Thus it becomes possible to install the loudspeaker in the frame and remove the loudspeaker from the frame by means of automatic machinery.

Abstract: A pair of sensitive microphones or transducers are mounted on a user's body, spaced apart by a distance equal to one-half a wavelength of the center frequency of a range of frequencies to be emphasized. By summing the outputs of the two microphones, sound in the broadside or look direction (i.e., the direction the listener faces, the microphones being on a line perpendicular to this direction) are emphasized; sounds in the endfire or side directions are nulled or produce a substantially null response in the region of the center frequency defined by the microphone spacing. A third microphone may be added that is not equally spaced from the microphones on either side, but is spaced to provide half wavelength distances which define maximum and null responses centered at the other points within the frequency range (1-4 KHz) desirable for highly effective hearing. The summed signal from each mircophone pair is bandpass filtered. Three bandpass filters are used.
