Abstract: Mucoprotides (i.e., complex compounds of protein with carbohydrates and carbohydrate derivatives) derived from animal tissues, for example, mammalian liver by a succession of extractive steps including treatment with acetone to produce three layers or phases of which the upper two are separated and further processed, the bottom layer being discarded. The retained layers are further treated to purify and de-antigenize them. The product is useful for treatment of allergic conditions, as a detoxicant and for treatment of narcotics addiction.
