  • Patent number: 9336680
Abstract: A rotating wheel of a vehicle is detected by evaluating the Doppler shift of a measuring beam emitted by a detector unit passed by the vehicle, reflected by the wheel and returned in Doppler-shifted form. In a relative position to the wheel, the vehicle comprises an onboard unit, which can establish a radio communication with a transceiver having a known location in the detector unit. The direction and distance of the onboard unit from the transceiver are measured on the basis of at least one radio communication between the same. The radiation direction or radiation position of the measuring beam is controlled in accordance with the measured direction and distance and taking into consideration the aforementioned relative position and location. The relative position is stored in the onboard unit and is read from the onboard unit by way of a radio communication for the purpose of the aforementioned consideration.

  • Patent number: 9318022
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for detecting a parking space (20) by means of a parking assistance system (2) of a motor vehicle (1) while the motor vehicle (1) is travelling past the parking space (20). A first sensor (7) acquires a time sequence (26) of measured values (27), and a second sensor (12) likewise acquires a time sequence (31) of measured values (32) while the vehicle is travelling past. The parking space (20) is detected on the basis of the measured values (27, 32) of at least one of the sensors (7, 12). For the detection of the parking space (20), the measured values (27) of the first sensor (7) and the measured values (32) of the second sensor (12) are acquired redundantly, and the plausibility of the time sequence (26) of the measured values (27) of the first sensor (7) is checked on the basis of the measured values (32) of the second sensor (12). The invention also relates to a parking assistance system (2), as well as to a motor vehicle (1) with such a system.

  • Patent number: 9269251
Abstract: A communicator facilitates communications with a remote server via a wireless network supporting a plurality of disparate data transport mechanisms having differing characteristics. A processor coupled to memory is disposed in a communicator housing, which is configured for portability. The memory stores wireless radio firmware and data transfer instructions that are executable by the processor for transferring data to the remote server in accordance with a priority level. The priority level is based in part on criticality of the data and the communicator status. A radio disposed in the housing effects communications via the wireless network in accordance with the firmware. A power source in the housing supplies power for communicator components. The processor executes program instructions for selecting a data transport mechanism among the plurality transport mechanisms based on the priority level, and transmits the data via the wireless network via the radio using the selected transport mechanism.
