  • Patent number: 5306084
Abstract: A printer controlling system which can perform printing at predetermined printing density even when the carriage is being accelerated or decelerated is disclosed. When the carriage is traveling, position pulses are generated at constant travel distance intervals. The carriage travel speed is measured on the basis of the time intervals during which the position pulses are generated. Further, the time at which the carriage reaches each predetermined printing position is estimated on the basis of the measured travel speed, and the actual printing is made when the current time matches the estimated arrival time.

  • Patent number: 5306102
Abstract: In the printing apparatus which can carry a plurality kinds of operation modes, it can be determined whether an operation mode of the printing information sent from an external source is HP mode having control code or PS mode without control code. In such a printing apparatus, a simulation printing operation is carried out without printing using an operation mode P, which is a simulation mode of PS mode. As a result of the simulated printing, it is determined whether the printing information has a format that satisfies the format X of PS mode. If it is determined that the printing information has a format that satisfies the format X of PS mode, the printing information is processed as that of PS mode and the printing data is sent to the laser printer engine. On the other hand, if it is determined that the printing information does not have a format that satisfies the format X of PS mode, the printing information is processed as that of HP mode and the printing data is sent to the laser printer engine.

  • Patent number: 5303647
Abstract: A stencil plate having a heat sensitive stencil paper sheet formed of a thermoplastic film and a porous support member, a non-woven fabric impregnated with ink, a frame member disposed so as to surround the non-woven fabric, an ink-impermeable film, and a peelable surface film having a high temperature heat resisting property that is superior to the thermoplastic film. The surface film may be a peelable member or there may be a peelable member adhered to the surface film so as to peel both, the peelable member having a projecting portion. When the projecting portion which projects from a frame member, is gripped and pulled, the surface film on a stenciled face, is gradually peeled away and removed from the stenciled face so that a heat sensitive stencil paper sheet in the stenciled condition is exposed.

  • Patent number: 5304007
Abstract: A thermal printhead spring mount is provided, wherein a spring engages a printhead carrier at two points along the width of the carrier, the points being equidistant from the center of the carrier. A cam engages the center of the spring and selectively biases the spring against the carrier. The spring transfers equal force to the two points, creating a balanced carrier. By releasing cam force from the spring, through simple rotation, tension is relieved in the spring.

  • Patent number: 5304008
Abstract: An ink ribbon cassette includes a cassette case for housing an ink ribbon and feeding it along a feed path, an ink ribbon guide for guiding the ribbon along the ink path and a cantilevered spring member disposed at an intermediate portion of the feed path of the ink ribbon. The cantilevered spring member includes a frictioning portion for imparting a smaller tension to the ink ribbon when the ink ribbon is fed from a supply end to a take-up end, while imparting a greater tension to the ink ribbon when the ink ribbon is fed from the take-up end to the supply end. The spring member is provided at a free end with the frictioning portion and is bent at an intermediate portion such that a supported end of the spring member and the free end thereof face each other.

  • Patent number: 5302038
Abstract: Operation of a double-line printing key, and selection of an upper printing line or a lower printing line causes the indication of subsequent input character data to follow either an upper printing line mark or a lower printing line mark, for example, on an LCD. When a printing key is operated, the character data following the upper printing line mark are stored in a first arrangement memory, and the data following the lower printing line mark are stored in a second arrangement memory. When the number of characters to be printed in the upper line is different from the number of characters to be printed in the lower line, space data are inserted into the printing line (upper or lower) which has the lesser number of characters so that the length of the upper printing line and the lower printing line become the same.

  • Patent number: 5302035
Abstract: To suppress a secondary bound of a print wire of a dot matrix printer which may occur after a single dot or continuous dots are printed and also to prevent both density variation of printed characters and printing ghost from occurring, a braking pulse is applied after application of a printing pulse in the case of printing the single dot and after a printing pulse of the trailing print cycle in the case of printing the continuous dots. The duration of the braking pulse to be applied after the application of the printing pulse in the trailing print cycle of the continuous dot printing is set to be shorter than the duration of the braking pulse applied after the printing pulse in the case of printing the single dot.

  • Patent number: 5290109
Abstract: An electronic typewriter for printing a document having a fixed format with portions thereof containing replaceable character code. The document is stored in an external storage device and read out until a replaceable character code is detected. The replaceable character code is acted upon by replacement with substitute character code or deletion thereof based on instructions communicated to a keyboard.
