  • Patent number: 8358705
Abstract: A system and method for wirelessly transmitting audiovisual information. First audiovisual information may be encoded using a first error correction coding method. A plurality of packets may be generated, including the first audiovisual information, second audiovisual information, and control information. The second audiovisual information may not be encoded using the first error correction coding method, and the control information may indicate this. The plurality of packets may be wirelessly transmitted. The control information may be usable by a receiver to determine that the second audiovisual information is not encoded using the first error correction coding method, and may thereby determine that the second audiovisual information is a different service version than the first audiovisual information.

  • Patent number: 8355439
Abstract: The time required to transcode an encoded image signal to an image signal encoded by a different encoding method is reduced. Disclosed herein is a transcoder comprising: picture selector 4 which extracts specific types of pictures (I- and P-pictures) from a first image signal (MPEG2 stream) and generates a subset of the first image signal; a first decoder 5 which decodes the subset image signal; and a first encoder 7 which encodes the decoded image signal to a second image signal (MPEG4 stream). The picture selector 4 uses the extracted pictures to generate the subset image signal with a reduced effective length.

  • Patent number: 8350901
Abstract: A brightness image is produced from a frame image input from a scope and a high brightness pixel group including pixels next to one another, of which the brightness values exceed a predetermined value, and of which the number exceeds a predetermined value, is detected. Only when the pixel group is detected, a microcomputer performs light amount adjustment. When no high brightness pixel group is detected any more, a brightness blurred image is produced from the brightness image. If the value of a pixel forming the brightness blurred image is greater than or equal to a predetermined value, the value is replaced with zero. If the value is less than or equal to a predetermined value, the value is replaced with a greater value as the value is smaller. Then, brightness conversion is performed on the brightness image by adding the brightness blurred image after replacement to the brightness image.

  • Patent number: 8345767
Abstract: A video encoding method comprises the steps of converting syntax data of an image block into a binary sequence; encoding each symbol of the binary sequence subject to its corresponding context; estimating the number of bits required for the binary arithmetic encoding of the syntax data of the image block; deciding whether to encode the syntax data of the image block to output it responding to the estimated bit number; and updating the context corresponding the syntax data decided to be encoded and to be outputted and not updating the context corresponding to the syntax data decided not to be encoded and not to be outputted. The estimating step uses the maximum value of the number of arithmetic encoding output bits for its input symbols as the aforementioned number of bits.

  • Patent number: 8345754
Abstract: Techniques and tools are described for signaling hypothetical reference decoder parameters for video bitstreams, including signaling of buffer fullness. For example, a buffer size syntax element indicates a decoder buffer size, and a buffer fullness syntax element indicates a buffer fullness as a fraction of the decoder buffer size. As another example, buffer fullness is signaled in one or more entry point headers and other hypothetical reference decoder parameters are signaled in a sequence header.

  • Patent number: 8340189
Abstract: Motion vectors for encoding a predicted frame relative to a reference frame are determined from a phase correlation of corresponding regions of the predicted frame and reference frame. Peaks in the phase correlation are identified, and the location of the peaks are used as candidate motion vectors. From this limited set of candidate motion vectors, the best motion vectors for predicting blocks within each region can be readily identified.

  • Patent number: 8330813
Abstract: In a camera 12, a sound input unit inputs a monitoring sound obtained from a monitoring place, and an image generation unit generates a monitoring image obtained from the monitoring place. A sound anomaly detection unit then detects a sound anomaly in the monitoring place based on the monitoring sound, and an image anomaly detection unit detects an image anomaly in the monitoring place based on the monitoring image. A comprehensive anomaly judgment unit comprehensively judges whether or not there is an anomaly based on detection results of the sound anomaly detection unit and the image anomaly detection unit. When the comprehensive anomaly judgment unit judges that there is an anomaly, an anomaly notification unit notifies a controller 14 of the anomaly. An anomaly can be reliably detected by the comprehensive anomaly judgment.

  • Patent number: 8315305
Abstract: Image processing systems and methods extract information from an input signal representative of an element of an image and to encode the information in a pulsed output signal. A plurality of channels communicates the pulsed output signal, each of the plurality of channels being characterized by a latency. The information may be encoded as a pattern of relative pulse latencies observable in pulses communicated through the plurality of channels and the pattern of relative pulse latencies is substantially insensitive to image contrast and/or image luminance. A filter can be employed to provide a generator signal based on the input signal and pulse latencies can be determined using a logarithmic function of the generator signal. The filter may be temporally and/or spatially balanced and characterized by an integral along spatial and/or temporal dimensions of the filter that is substantially zero for all values of a temporal and/or a spatial variable.

  • Patent number: 8311119
Abstract: A digital media codec adaptively re-arranges a coefficient scan order of transform coefficients in accordance with the local statistics of the digital media, so that the coefficients can be encoded more efficiently using entropy encoding. The adaptive scan ordering is applied causally at encoding and decoding to avoid explicitly signaling the scan order to the decoder in the compressed digital media stream. For computational efficiency, the adaptive scan order re-arranges the scan order by applying a conditional exchange operation on adjacently ordered coefficient locations via a single traversal of the scan order per update of the statistical analysis.

Abstract: An image processing method for RDO based adaptive spatial-temporal resolution frame is provided for significantly reducing distortion of the decoded video image, which is resulted from over-compression or over-quantization by the encoder in a low code rate. By employing such image processing method, when the encoder detects that the allocated code rate is below the critical point, most appropriated temporal resolution and spatial resolution in an allocated specific code rate are found automatically based on the principle of rate distortion optimization, then after the decoding of the decoder, the resolution of the input image is recovered according to a certain algorithm.

  • Patent number: 8311129
Abstract: In various embodiments, temporal filtering may be used to reduce noise over time in a series of video frames. A temporal filter may use previous filtered frames to reduce the noise in a current frame. For example, a temporal filter may filter noise in still parts of an image more strongly than in moving parts of the image. In some embodiments, a temporal filter requiring less processing power may include a method for detecting motion between a set of pixels and applying the temporal filter based on the detected motion. For example, if substantial motion is not detected, the temporal filter for the block of pixels may be stronger (i.e., reduce more noise) than the temporal filter applied to a block of pixels for which substantial motion has been detected.
