    Abstract: A push rod extends through the main shaft of a change speed gear transmission to release a friction clutch on that shaft. The other end of the push rod is engaged by a hydraulic actuator. An oil seal assembly for the push rod is prevented from being damaged by leakage of hydraulic oil, and this is accomplished by means of an air gap and vent between the hydraulic actuator and the oil seal assembly.

    Abstract: Two flyweight shafts 12,22 are coupled by means of gears 18,30 each attached to one flyweight shaft 12,22 and two intermediate gears 54,56 each engaging one of these gears 18,30 and mesh with each other. Each of the intermediate gears 54, 56 is mounted on one of the oscillating cranks 32, 34 pivotably mounted on the associated flyweight shaft 12 and 22, respectively. The oscillating cranks 32 and 34 are held parallel to each other and can be pivoted to effect a relative phase displacement of the flyweight shafts 12, 22. The oscillating cranks 32,34 are provided with counterweights 62,64 and are thereby mass balanced to prevent oscillations from becoming effective on the oscillating cranks 32,34 and thus on the adjusting mechanism 60 during vibratory operation due to intertial forces.

    Abstract: The described motion converter has a housing in which a drive shaft is interconnected with a rotary motion power source. The drive shaft has an extent having a left-hand thread adjacent one end thereof and an extent having a right-hand thread located adjacent the opposite end thereof. Threaded nuts on the left and right hand threaded portions each have spiral spring clutches. An actuator is slidingly received upon the intermediate portion of the drive shaft with pins located at opposite ends of the actuator to engage one spring clutch while releasing the other. A spring loaded positioning device associated with the actuator insures that the actuator is positively located to engage one or the other of the clutches and prevents the actuator from hanging up at an intermediate position.

The pilot valve circuit includes a flow restrictor providing modulated flow thereby affording a controlled pressure rise in the clutch whereby a smooth engagement of the front wheel drive is achieved.

    Abstract: A fluid coupling device is disclosed of the type including an output coupling (13) and an input coupling member (11). The speed of operation of the coupling device is determined by the amount of fluid in the operating chamber (37), and fluid communication from the reservoir chamber (41) into the operating chamber is controlled by movement of a valve arm (49) relative to a fill opening (50). The fill opening includes an outer edge (79) which is disposed at an angle relative to a radial line, such that the valving is of the modulating type, i.e., movement of the valve arm in response to increasing temperature results in radially outward movement of the outermost point of the flow area. In accordance with the invention, the valve arm defines an included open area (73) having a leading edge (74) and a trailing edge (75). The flow area is determined by the area of overlap (77,81) of the open area (73) and the fill opening (50).

At least some of the torsion springs consist of coaxially arranged double compressible coil springs including a diametrically large outer spring and a diametrically small inner spring. Each of these small springs is hourglass-shaped so that their diameters gradually change along their length and their axially middle portions have the smallest diameters. The diametrically large outer springs may also have an hourglass shape.

    Abstract: A manually disengageable centrifugal clutch for motor vehicles has a clutch cover fixed to a flywheel, a pressure plate axially movable relative to the flywheel, and an intermediate disc. An intermediate plate defines, together with the pressure plate, a plurality of outwardly narrowing spaces for radially movable centrifugal weights and is spring biased towards the pressure plate. The intermediate plate is suspended on disengagement arms and is movable thereby away from the pressure plate. In one position at a certain distance from the pressure plate, the spaces for the centrifugal weights are widened so much that the weights cannot exert any pressure on the pressure plate. The clutch is thereby disengaged regardless of rotational speed, the disengaging force only depending on the spring force on the intermediate plate.
