  • Patent number: 7318233
Abstract: An optical disk having a recording layer on a substrate, a bonding layer which is made of an ultraviolet cured resin bonding the recording layer, a transparent layer which is bonded to the bonding layer, and an overcoating layer which is formed on the transparent sheet and is made of the ultraviolet cured resin further has a mixed layer which is formed by mixing the ultraviolet cured resins of the bonding layer and the overcoating layer. Consequently, the bonding layer, the overcoating layer, and the mixed layer are integrally cured, so that the substrate is entirely covered with the ultraviolet cured resin having transparency, which allows a light transmitting layer A to be protected with sufficient strength.

  • Patent number: 7310805
Abstract: An emergent disc-ejection device applied in a disc player having a bottom casing and a disc accessing body is provided. The bottom casing has a via hole, while the disc accessing body is disposed on the bottom casing. The emergent disc-ejection device includes a tray, an active element and a connecting rod. The tray carries a disc to enter and leave the disc accessing body. The active element is coupled to the tray for carrying the tray to be ejected from the disc accessing body. The connecting rod and the disc accessing body are connected via a pin joint. By inserting a probe into the via hole along a first direction to provide an applying force to the force receiving portion, the force applying portion will push the active element along a second direction, enabling the active element to carry the tray to be ejected from the disc accessing body.

  • Patent number: 7307816
Abstract: A slider/suspension design and assembly method include securing a slider to a suspension assembly for use in a magnetic disk drive data recording device. To this end, solder bumps are applied to a metalized backside surface of the slider, and are patterned and flown within a plurality of receptacles to form a rigid mechanical connection between the slider to the flexure, while also enabling the slider-suspension assembly to be separated without damage during the process. The slider/suspension assembly is initiated by forming a plurality of slider bars on a wafer, in such a manner that the trailing edge surfaces of the sliders form a front side of the wafer. A plurality of thin film read/write elements and a plurality of electrical contact pads are formed on the wafer front side. Slider bars are then diced from the wafer, and the slider backsides are metalized on the slider bars.

  • Patent number: 7307815
Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) head with single or double coil layers has a small write shield stitched onto a main write shield. The stitched shield allows the main write pole to produce a vertical write field with sharp vertical gradients that is reduced on both sides of the write pole so that adjacent track erasures are eliminated. From a fabrication point of view, both the main pole and the stitched shield are defined and formed using a single photolithographic process, a trim mask and CMP lapping process so that the main shield can be stitched onto a self-aligned main pole and stitched shield.

  • Patent number: 7292412
Abstract: In a helical scanning type magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus for selecting one of output signals of two reproducing heads that are disposed at positions different by of 180° and transferring the selected output signal with a rotary transformer of one channel, a rotor side winding of a reproducing signal channel of a rotary transformer is divided into two portions. The divided portions are connected at two positions that are opposite to output terminals of head amplifiers that amplify output signals of reproducing heads and that have self short-circuit switches. Without use of extra wirings, the head amplifiers are directly connected to the rotary transformer. An output signal of the reproducing head is selected by short-circuiting a self short-circuit switch of a head amplifier corresponding to a head that does not reproduce a signal.

  • Patent number: 7278150
Abstract: A chucking mechanism which reliably attaches and detaches a disc with high precision. The chucking mechanism includes a shaft for supporting the disc and having a tapered recess, a tapered cone adapted to fit in the tapered recess, and a piston for moving a rod, attached to the tapered cone, through a hole formed in the shaft. The mechanism also includes an O-ring having a variable diameter and being disposed between the tapered cone and the tapered recess. As the piston moves the tapered cone in a first direction, the tapered cone gradually expands the diameter of the O-ring to press and fix the disc. As the piston moves the tapered cone in a second direction, the diameter of the O-ring gradually contracts to move out of contact with the disc so as to release the disc.

  • Patent number: 7263705
Abstract: A disc cartridge and a disc drive apparatus. The disc cartridge includes an upper case and a lower case which form an internal space to accommodate a disc, and a pair of elastic protrusions formed at both sidewalls of the lower cases, which are elastically biased toward the internal space so that ends of the elastic protrusions support the disc. Surfaces are formed at the ends to slope toward the internal space so that the disc is located in an upper portion of the internal space and the pair of elastic protrusions supports the disc. The disc descends on the surfaces when the pair of elastic protrusions are opened and the disc is then located in a lower portion of the internal space.

  • Patent number: 7259939
Abstract: A thin-film magnetic head includes a first magnetic core, a second magnetic core, a connecting layer which connects the first magnetic core and the second magnetic core, a toroidal coil layer, and a shielding layer. The connecting layer extends in the height direction so as to face the back side in the height direction of the shielding layer. Alternatively, the width in the track width direction of the connecting layer is larger than the width in the track width direction of the toroidal coil layer. Consequently, the volume of the connecting layer is increased, and thereby the heat capacity is increased. Heat generated in the thin-film magnetic head can be properly dissipated via the connecting layer, and an increase in the temperature inside the thin-film magnetic head can be prevented. As a result, protrusion of the thin-film magnetic head due to thermal expansion can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 7256964
Abstract: To lower the coefficient of static friction of the circumferential surface of the guide or drum constituting the magnetic tape apparatus. A flat portion is formed between peak portions. The peak portions and flat portion are formed so that the relationship: a?<a is satisfied, where “a” represents a distance between the ridges of the peak portions, i.e., pitch of the peak portions, and “a?” represents a bottom width of the peak portions. When this relationship is satisfied between the peak portions and the flat portion, the total area of the meniscuses formed between the magnetic tape and the peak portions can be reduced, thus making it possible to lower the coefficient of static friction.
