  • Patent number: 11732611
Abstract: Exhaust outlets (e.g., in a gas turbine engine) are generally made from sections of thin-walled materials (e.g., sheet metal) that are joined by flanges. Due to the length of the exhaust outlet and differing thermal expansion coefficients exhibited by the flanges and the thin-walled materials, these joints are subjected to high mechanical, as well as thermal, stresses. A long-arm flange is disclosed that decouples the mechanical stress from the thermal stress in the flange and distributes the stress, to thereby reduce the stress at the flange interface. Additionally, the long-arm flange can be easily adapted to the specific geometry of any exhaust outlet.

  • Patent number: 11698073
Abstract: Disclosed are pumps designed to make priming more efficient and therefore reduce priming time. The disclosed pumps include one or more deflection structures that prevent fluid moving through a diffuser of the pump from continuing in a circular path and instead divert the fluid in a different direction that leads directly to an outlet of the pump. This deflection reduces air bubble accumulation inside the pump while priming and makes it easier for air to escape through the pump outlet. Making it easier for air to escape the pump outlet ultimately allows air to escape the pump faster during priming, reducing back pressure caused by trapped air pockets inside the pump and improving priming performance.

  • Patent number: 11686211
Abstract: A fan assembly includes a fan duct, an inlet fan, and an outlet guide vane assembly. The inlet fan forces fan exit air toward an aft end of the fan duct. The outlet guide vane assembly is located in the fan duct downstream of the inlet fan and adjusts a direction of the fan exit air, and includes a plurality of outlet guide vanes and a plurality of actuation assemblies that control rotation of the outlet guide vanes about a pitch axis. The outlet guide vanes include a leading edge portion and a trailing edge portion rotatably coupled to an axially aft edge of the leading edge portion. The actuation assembly rotates the leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion to minimize losses created by distortions in fan inlet air and created by the leading edge portion redirecting the fan exit air in the first direction.

  • Patent number: 11685522
Abstract: The rotor of a hybrid aerodyne for producing lift by rotating during a stage of vertical flight and then for being held stationary and stored longitudinally during a stage of cruising flight has at least one single-blade with a counterweight. The length of the active blade that generates lift of the rotor while rotating is significantly shorter than the length of the radius of the rotor. The portion that carries the active blade that makes the connection between the active blade and rotor mast is structurally rigid. The rigid portion that carries the active blade presents a cross-section optimized to provide zero or almost zero lift and very little aerodynamic drag while the rotor is rotating. The assembly is hinged about a transverse axis perpendicular to the vertical axis of the rotor and substantially on the vertical axis of the rotor mast.
