Abstract: Described herein are tissue grafts derived from the placenta that possess good adhesion to biological tissues and are useful in wound healing applications. In one aspect, the tissue graft includes (1) two or more layers of amnion, wherein at least one layer of amnion is cross-linked, (2) two or more layers of chorion, wherein at least one layer of chorion is cross-linked, or (3) one or more layers of amnion and chorion, wherein at least one layer of amnion and/or chorion is cross-linked. In another aspect, the grafts are composed of amnion and chorion cross-linked with one another. In a further aspect, the grafts have one or more layers sandwiched between the amnion and chorion membranes. The amnion and/or the chorion are treated with a cross-linking agent prior to the formation of the graft. The presence of the cross-linking agent present on the graft also enhances adhesion to the biological tissue of interest. Also described herein are methods for making and using the tissue grafts.

  • Patent number: 11123196
Abstract: An MTP joint fusion device is disclosed which stabilizes the fusion site without the use of a fusion plate. Further, the MTP joint fusion device comprises an MTP head replacement component placed over the distal end of the first metatarsal. This portion of the device contains the bone ingrowth matrix. An intramedullary screw is driven through the distal central portion of the device into the base of the proximal phalanx of the hallux. At least two metatarsal screws are driven radially through the device into the metatarsal neck area. This secures the MTP head replacement component to the metatarsal at a specifically determined angle. Thus, the MTP joint fusion device provides for a more secure fusion environment, increased capacity for bone ingrowth, less potential for irritation from retained hardware, and earlier weight bearing as compared to traditional methods.

  • Patent number: 11116624
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems and methods for providing improved intraocular lenses (IOLs), include features for reducing side effects, such as halos, glare and best focus shifts, in multifocal refractive lenses and extended depth of focus lenses. Exemplary ophthalmic lenses can include a continuous, power progressive aspheric surface based on two or more merged optical zones, the aspheric surface being defined by a single aspheric equation. Continuous power progressive intraocular lenses can mitigate optical side effects that typically result from abrupt optical steps. Aspheric power progressive and aspheric extended depth of focus lenses can be combined with diffractive lens profiles to further enhance visual performance while minimizing dysphotopsia effects. The combination can provide an increased depth of focus that is greater than an individual depth of focus of either the refractive profile or the diffractive profile.
