  • Patent number: 5512133
Abstract: A method for producing substantially ink-free pulp from recycle printed paper comprising first pulping the recycle paper in a hydrapulper with at least water and an agglomerating agent thereby producing a pulp. Ink particle agglomerates in the pulp are then removed by screening the pulp through at least one screen and by cleaning the pulp in a cyclone cleaner. Pulp together with small ink particles that escape the prior separation stages is then conducted from the cyclone cleaner through a standpipe at a consistency of about or less than 1% where particles of ink associate with small air bubbles and are elevated to the surface of the pulp where they accumulate as a froth which may be removed by overflowing.

  • Patent number: 5509997
Abstract: Method of recovering energy from waste liquors from pulp processes, wherein the waste liquor is burned in a waste liquor recovery boiler and energy is recovered from the flue gases by producing saturated or partially superheated steam in the recovery boiler. According to the invention, a portion of the waste liquor is gasified in a gasifying reactor in order to produce combustion gas. The combustion gas is burned in a separate superheating boiler, in which the steam produced in the recovery boiler is superheated.

  • Patent number: 5507916
Abstract: A method of treating the edges of a fiber web is provided wherein a pressing device device conveys and presses a fiber web through a pressing gap of a pressing station of the device. The station includes a pressing roll and a counter roll. The pressing roll has a roll shell. A pressing shoe is disposed within the roll shell and pressing units are disposed substantially along a width of the pressing shoe transverse to the direction of movement of a fiber web through the pressing station. The pressing units press against the pressing shoe which in turn presses a pressing surface of the shoe against an inner surface of the roll shell in a series of zones. The pressing units including pressing/pressure relief elements. The pressing force of the pressing/pressure relief elements is reduced in a step-wise fashion, zone-by-zone, from a normal operating level to a lower level in a region that includes the fiber web edges and the pressing shoe ends.

  • Patent number: 5505777
Abstract: A computer controlled system for high speed surface mount adhesive placement in circuit board production includes a dot generator supported for motion along the X, Y and Z axes. The dot generator ejects a jet of viscous adhesive that breaks away from the nozzle of the dot generator as a result of its own forward momentum. The system includes an automatic circuit board conveyor with adjustable width and pneumatically operated lift and lock mechanisms. The system runs through a self-diagnostic set-up procedure and dot calibration routine. Dot size and location are monitored through a video camera and vision circuit. A computer interfaces with the vision circuit and with motion, dot generator and conveyor controllers so that the system can operate in a high volume production assembly line. Application programs are executed by the system computer typically utilizing CAD data from a disk or a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) controller.

  • Patent number: 5505820
Abstract: A paper rawstock web is wet densified on a papermachine at a moisture content greater than about 20% and less than about 50%, and preferably from about 25-35%, in a calender device at nip pressures greater than about 3000 psi, and preferably within the range of from about 3000-6000 psi, to provide fiber springback resistance and irreversibly smooth surfaces which are substantially resistant to loss of smoothness upon rewetting, as for example in a subsequent surface sizing or coating process. Wet densification according to the present invention produces a web having greater density and increased internal bond strength, as compared with webs treated by conventionally known methods, to achieve the irreversibly smooth surfaces.
